Autumn leaves

In most years, the leaves on our oak just turn brown. But this year, they're putting on quite a show. My little point-and-shoot camera doesn't do the tree justice. In real life, the color kind of takes your breath away.

Fortunately, it was my wife that got me started. I've now taken over one room in the house and nearly all the shelving we have in a 5-bay shed. There's hope for the addiction, though. I've noticed that, over the past several months, I no longer HAVE to get to estate sales at the opening bell, and I'...

The jet end of the generator coil was missing on the last two 200As I’ve worked on (center and right in photo). There’s no sign of the missing portion in the generator tube. Did the tip burn off; did a previous owner break it off? I hate to re-use these coils for fear that without the tapered end, t...

Both fuel and check valves are usually pretty cheap and easy to replace, so unless it's an unusual specimen, that's the way I normally go. Replacement was my plan, too, but, as I stated above, two of my brand new replacements leaked - I think I've bought a total of 4. In fact, the one bubbling in t...

I have lately had too many check valve/air stem combos that leak. 426C. In addition to the good features listed above (fold-back lid, effective wind baffle clips, tough as nails) it has grate hinges that can be unscrewed easily rather than those cursed hinge clips on later stoves. Also, the 426C has the comfy handle which is nice on such a heavy stove.
