Lye and some gentle coaxing from a dental pick or bamboo skewer will get the scaly stuff off and leave the brass looking clean. I also thought about using lye. I'd be afraid citric acid would harm the brass too much before the verdigris comes off. I'll try and post pictures once I've some success. ...

Talked to them during several ICCC conventions. Very nice folks.

I've Caswell'ed several pressure lamps and lanterns as well as Aladdin founts. One Aladdin was so badly cracked that I had to put a tensioning strap around to press the fount in shape again. The only I’ve had work on these old generators is to remove the packing and replace. Otherwise it seems like every time you look at it another chunk of debris blocks the generator hole and you have to remove, damaging at least one mantle, and hope it doesn’t happen again. Thanks for your opinions guys. I'd sealed the genny with the thread locker, put the lamp together and made a test run. Not successful either (the other one was the Famos incandescent lamp). :-( I'd not blown through the pick-up tube but since the fount looked more or less clean I forgot about that. ...

That was the only option I could think of.
I just wasn't sure if it would withstand the heat from the mantles but I'll give it a try.
I have some blue thread sealer here but I think it is similar. :-)

I've seen some Rayo's as well, but getting wicks, flame spreaders or other missing parts is a no-go for me and good ones aren't cheap either. :(
My hard suitcase is big enough to accommodate quite a few, properly wrapped in bubble foil. I've confirmed that on previous trips. :lol:
