Re: 242c generator

Those were not designed to come apart, although with enough patience it can be done. I find it easiest to install the more common style without the crimped ring. Someone will have breakdown photos that will make more sense for you I'm sure...

I just press them off the splined shaft and repress them on the new one... If the stem is good I swap them like Steve mentions.

Re: 242c generator

Can you see a crimped bushing in the bottom of the gen? Pretty common on the 242 models in my experience, although not all will be that way.

This was an unexpected purchase, albeit an exciting one. Cheap too. I've had way more stress cracked Coleman's than any other brand... Granted I own way more Coleman also. I've never seen a cracked C, but the large side stamped B's cracked occasionally. There's a cracked 202 here too...

Re: Help with Sunshine Safety

Bill I can't find my photos, but basically you have a long steel rod in the bottom majority of the gen, then at the top you have a smaller steel rod that will be surrounded by asbestos. Screen at the top. This is assuming it's all original. I'm sure Steve has some photos handy. Edit: I found this......

Correct. The Nulite SS lamps would run from 1916-22 if I remember correctly.

Re: Smooth Winged Cap Lanterns?

Those rough cast winged caps are normally found on Wartime 220B/BX lanterns(not all). Mine is on a 42. Sometimes found on Canadian appliances also.

Photoed here top right.

Re: Help with Sunshine Safety

Looks like a bargain if I'm reading that price tag right. Always pressure check these large turbans as they're prone to cracks. It has had a valve stem swap at some point. This is basically a Coleman AA lamp that was rebranded for Sunshine Safety. These were SS's 1915 lamp offering. A little more in...

First thing I would try is swapping the burner like Bill mentions because it's easy, but also check to see if the gen orfice is loose... I've had it happen on new gens.

I've never personally done it, but you would want to make sure to leave room for expansion and not crimp them too tight. You might contact Steve R. As he installs them on 242 vents.

Re: Scored an Air O!

Nice old one! Does it have a patent on the air tube? Yes it does. Single patent date on the air tube This will put you in the 1919-20 range. Most likey 19 with the tabbed vent. Hard to tell but it looks like the washer is on top instead of underneath? Mark, that would be correct for this frame style.

Yes, transmissions are gear reducers... This one also has one gear increaser (overdrive!)

Re: What did you do in your shop today?

This has been a very slow work in progress, but it's finally starting to come together... Slowly. Melted some metal together this afternoon on it... I'm sure it doesn't make any sense yet, but as it progresses it will... Probably not.
