I'm looking for one for a primus stove that is sentimental to my mother in law with the same frustration as you. I'm thinking that the next beater propane stove that I find is going to be a parts donor and the fittings soldered into the old primus. You might consider the same.

Dawn dish detergent on the stove with a good brush should do the job fine. A little detail work with a brillo pad on the case rust and the burners is all I would do. Make sure it runs first though.

I don't know about the serial numbers or dating the natural gas heaters. But I'm guessing late 40's to mid 60's on that one.
