Well I guess I'm old but not having a spare tire would not work here in wyoming. Lots of places with no cell coverage and even then the tow trucks are a long way away.

Do these tire less cars have a place to put a spare tire if you bought one?

As far as wind chill for 2days the high has been 6. But with no wind and some sunshine me and my wife sat on the deck and had a beer. Wind is supposed to start again. So we will be confined to the inside of the house soon.

Just keep picking at that graphite. Once you get it all out things will come apart.

first ya gota remove the packing nut , then all traces of the packing must be picked out , every bit of it , has to good n clean inside there , is there any rod left ? if not i have been able to use a finish nail , stick the head inside where the lever used to be and cock it just a bit so it grabs ...

The graphite packing holds those in, and is and to get out. I had a 200a a week ago that was broken when I got it. I used brute force to pull the nut of what was left of the rod. Had to replace a shut off valve to my toilet. 1/2 inch copper with a soldered valve. Got the old valve off and soldered on a threaded adapter to make future replacement easier. Find a longer bolt that is the same thread. Screw it in and twist with a wrench. Tap lightly with a screw driver handle. May be held on with a little varnished fuel but won't take much to free it.

I think Stan nailed. Those big generators need to get pretty hot. Doing the hot blast with the valve closed is what works best for me.

Never worked on one of these but was wondering, will the generator unscrew? If it does it may give you a chance use the rod to turn the valve.

If this was my lantern I would do the following. Remove the burner frame. Just one pal nut holding it on. Remove the generator. As you do this you can tell if it is correctly hooked in the eccentric, and also see if the eccentric is moving up and down. Next pull the pricker rod out of the generator ...

I have always had better luck hitting the burner with a flame after the generator is moved from the pre heater to the burner.
