I have a handful of propane lanterns mostly from my Dad including his 5107 8/73. Don't use them much but they are convenient to have on hand just in case and easy to use. Like you, I thought about "Franking" it too but decided I'll leave it the way my Dad used it.

I put the valve in a vice and fairly easily pulled it straight. The dent did not come out of the top of the fount much but the valve is straight and everything lines up pretty good.
