Jim- I'm not sure if it was originally an alcohol (spirit) lamp. It had a faint smell of kerosene on the wick, so I put a squirt of synth kero in it for now.

Gave my old lady a red colored dutch oven a few years ago for Christmas, don't recall the brand but it sure wasn't hundreds of dollars. Probably from Target or Farm & Fleet. We've used it a lot without issue.


I still like the plain cast one we have best.

Never used the plier wrench, but the Knipex cutters I carry in my tackle box have been the best ones I've ever used.

I'd stick with the Crescent wrench, as Dean points out, leverage on a tight nut/bolt would be a lot better... unless you have the hand strength of Magilla Gorilla.

Grapeseed oil is even more expensive per gallon than synthetic kero by me. I'd be hard pressed to burn it in a lantern.

The places I frequent don't carry Crown, only Coleman and best I can find on that is $11.12/gal. Must be better supply options mid state there for you.

I did notice the kero alternative is up a couple bucks a gallon too, to $10.66/gal.
