Re: 200A Rebuild... leak through eccentric block

Thanks for all the replies. Flushing the valve stem / body worked... it's back together and lit the first time. I'll send pics, if it ever stops raining! Thanks again!

200A Rebuild... leak through eccentric block

I'm working through my first rebuild of a single mantle lantern (200A). The disassembly went well, everything is cleaned and seems fine. When I pressure tested the lantern there was a very small leak, but up through the eccentric block. The valve stem is fine and so is the tip cleaner stem (no leaka...

Re: Removing valve wheel and valve body on CQ lamp

Interesting! Thanks for all the advice... so now the lamp is torn down, it's time to start cleaning, testing and rebuilding. Stay tuned for some before/after pictures!

Re: Removing valve wheel and valve body on CQ lamp

The nut I'm talking about is the one at the top of the fount. What you said about the nut keeping the top from expanding under pressure makes sense. Are we talking about the same nut?

Re: Removing valve wheel and valve body on CQ lamp

OK, I get it! Sorry about the pretzel comment... no I'm not talking about the generator. It looks like someone tried to get the tube out of the fount... it's slightly bent and scratched up, but I think it's just scars after 100 years. What's the purpose of the 9/16" nut?

Re: Removing valve wheel and valve body on CQ lamp

It worked! Thanks Steve. Now another question... the vertical brass tube inside the lamp holder looks likes it's threaded into the fount and is secured by a 9/16" nut. But it must extend to the bottom of the fount. So I don't understand the geometry... is there second tube that goes from the top of ...

Re: Removing valve wheel and valve body on CQ lamp

Thanks Steve! It's still not budging... but I'll keep working on it. As my mama used to say, patience is a virtue! Also thx for the advice on the valve wheel... that could've ended badly!

Removing valve wheel and valve body on CQ lamp

I've started tearing down my Quick-Lite CQ lamp and have a few of questions: 1) How do you remove the valve wheel. It looks as if there was once a retaining clip in there, but it's long gone now. I really don't want to destroy it because it is stamped with a "C" which according to Toby is important ...

Re: How to tell the year of Coleman Quick lite?

Yes, it does! Is there a way we can bound when it was manufactured? When did they start manufacturing these lamps? This will be a challenge... both the rebuild and the addiction

Re: How to tell the year of Coleman Quick lite?

I just picked up a Coleman Quick-Lite table lamp... under the "The Sunlight of the Night" stamp there are no numbers stamped. Were there years (or a range of years) when Coleman did not date their lamps/lanterns in this way? Are there other ways you can date the lamp? For example, on the lamp handle...

Re: How to tell the year of Coleman Quick lite?

So do I have this right... a Quick-Lite lamp marked 6 9 would be September 1926?

Thanks. Yes, the globe has the Coleman logo on it. BTW, I uploaded the wrong picture... here's one showing the Coleman logo and with the clocking correct.

Update on the rebuild of my 220F (11/69)

Just wanted to give you an update on the rebuild of my 220F (11/69). It works! After three cycles of assemble / disassemble, I finally got the lantern working properly. I think the problem was the F/A tube. I wish I had taken some “before” pictures, but I forgot. The lantern was essentially a barn f...

Re: Cleaning a F/A tube with metering rod (long winded)

Thanks Bob, I'll try spinning the tip cleaner repeatedly, as you suggested. Regarding the spiders and nests, I used my air compressor to blow out anything that might be up there and then used a small (soft) wire brush to clean out places I could get to... the one place I couldn't get to is the mixin...

Re: Cleaning a F/A tube with metering rod (long winded)

"Your description of "pops down" and "moves back up" is not clear to me." zoomcat, sorry, that wasn't said very well. What I meant was this... as I open the valve, the fuel control rod stays in the same place (closing the orifice) until the valve turns 1 1/2 turns and then the rod pops up suddenly, ...

Re: Cleaning a F/A tube with metering rod (long winded)

I’m new to this forum, but have already found it to be a big help. I’m in the process of re-building a 220F (11/69) lantern. I have rebuilt another Coleman lantern and a Coleman stove, but neither required a complete, ground-up rebuild… so in many ways, this is my first. The problem I’m having is th...
