Heck my wife set this up! No, wifey is not coming, she has to work. Apparently she told these gals months ago she would get em out in the woods, and now is out of time. Keith to the rescue. Jim, it might be fun to have a 500 in each of their packs when we first start out. Maybe a gallon of water too

Moleskin , yes, thanks for the reminder!

Not sure on footwear. I'm not big on real boots for hiking, trail runner type shoes are my thing this time of year. They day hiked to one of the local lakes last weekend that is short, but steep and rough. The seem like the tough sort. We will see.

A member a couple months ago put a 222 generator on his 226/229 and said it didn't improve it.

THe 226/229 has an oring on top of the fa setup (222 does not), in theory if that o-ring wasn't making a good seal, you would leak air into the fa system. That's my theory and I'm stickin to it :)

Re: Picked up a Sears 743-42

It does not have a CV, it has a NRV. The CV is a "check valve" and isn't meant to be a perfect seal, like in a Coleman. The NRV is Non Return Valve, which mean no air returning past it. It is in Toby's excellent picture above, the small rubber plug in the brass holder is called a pip, and will need ...

They work fine without all the added do-dads too. I have used mine with rocks on the bottom, fire bricks, a hunk of 1/4 steel, and with nothing. Tinfoil on top. NOthing on top. All produce good tasting whatever, though prone to burning bottoms if heat is too high. Be warned.

I think the main reason for the longer runtime on the 222 is that the nozzle size is smaller than on the 226 and 229. I'm gonna look into this someday when I find my round-to-it. I don't believe the small increase in jet size is the culprit. A member posted a couple months ago he put a 222 generato...
