Nice roundup of some fine lanterns, Tim. Your collection is growing. I think more shelves and hangers are in your future.

Mark, I still remember the first time I viewed your photos in and around the tower. They were interesting, and made me want to be there. I hope things get worked out, and you have a good season…a season without fires.

Welcome from Florida. I have a 295, and it runs bright with #21 size mantles. I hope you can get in touch with Guff. He is very knowledgeable on all things Coleman. Have fun with your new lantern.

Re: Removing rust from vent

My new favorite way is to soak the vent if Evapo Rust. Then rinse with fresh water. I have also used Rust 911 with good results.

I have good results with VHT Silver paint on various stove parts. It has to be cured, and holds up to the heat.

It’s amazing what a little TLC will do. I just gave away an example of your stove. I did what Duane did except paint the drip tray. After a tune up, it ran great.

Re: Same two lanterns, but...

I am glad you finally found the answer. It would be interesting to know the differences between the generators, if any. If both were cleaned and rebuilt, maybe a gas tip was worn. I have had this issue before.

Re: Advice -- newer or older stove?

Paffer, I usually operate on a simple motto, except when looking for a wife. If one is good, two is better. I would buy both stoves if I could afford them. As others have posted, four burners come in handy.

Re: The common and the uncommon

Your wife keeps you busy with her finds. The stove is unique, will come in handy during extended power outages. The lantern should be ready for another 30 years. Good scores.

Brad, I wish you luck with your faux Amish mix. I have thought about trying that, but so far haven’t had time to do it. About a year ago I mixed diesel with Crown, and had the problems that you experienced. Excessive tip cleaner action, and generator running dirty.

Mike, your thread has got me thinking about my problem. I now realize that I may have an uncommon problem…too many commons. I will stop saving every one that comes my way. I will not, I will not, I will not…backslide. I really need to focus on older GPAs.

Nice piece of nostalgia, Clyde. If I had it, I would try to defeat the decades of rust, interior/exterior, and return it to its original look.

Good score, Will. It looks good as is. It will only look nicer after you shine it up, but it is garners respect no matter how far you take your restoration. She’s a bright runner for her age.

Re: Need gasket changing suggestions

I’m not recommending this, but have tried it with success. I placed the painted cap in a shallow baking pan, think cookie sheet type of pan. I filled the pan with water until it almost spilled into cap. I burned the gasket out like I would a 3 piece gasket. I kept nudging the cap in the pan while I ...
