Re: Wartime B

The one I picked up is dated 8/43... <snipped> 8/43 is one of the dates suggested as being a possible BX, if you didnt already know ;) Funny you say that, I did find that out and was partially the reason I wanted it but I wasn't trying to make to many waves since I'm fairly new to the forum

Re: Wartime B

In early war production you see some mixture as it seems they were using up stock they still had on hand. But from what I've seen, mid 42-44 are pretty much all steel burners with some ceramic burner caps mixed in there. Thanks Toby The one I picked up is dated 8/43 so it makes me curious if they m...

Wartime B

Does anyone know if the burner tubes on wartime B's/BX's we're steel or were they brass? On the one I just purchased the tip cleaner assembly and rod are all steel, the pump is all steel, the air tube is steel, the burner caps are steel but the burner tubes are non magnetic. And also the fount is st...

Thanks Gasman!
I appreciate it, unfortunately it leaked when I first bought it, that was part of the reason I wanted to rebuild it

Re: Help date 228B possibly?

Where is it leaking from? If it is around the nut, tighten it some more. If it is through the top of the valve assembly, the valve stem could be 180 degrees out. It's leaking from the jamb nut behind the valve wheel, I tried small increments of tightening and checking and it leaked no matter what, ...

Re: Help date 228B possibly?

Re-assembled the lantern, brand new graphite packing in the valve and it still is leaking...I'm kind of stumped, does anyone have suggestions why it would be leaking?

I just tried out the pencil method and it looks to me like a 6 like RR & lynn suggested

So that would mean July of '36 correct?

Re: Help date 228B possibly?

I looked inside ... Any chance you can make out the backside of the date stamp? :P I've heard vinegar works ... This is one reason I invested in Evaporust. While vinegar will work, as you said, there *is* a time limit you can keep vinegar in it. Its quite awhile, before I think you would have to wo...

Re: Help date 228B possibly?

Thanks for all the input guys! I'll try the paper and pencil method to see if I can get a for sure number. Currently it's all tore down and parts are on the way from old Coleman parts. The graphite packing on the valve is leaking when under pressure, so it's getting a good cleaning and polish while ...

Help date 228B possibly?

Hey guys I was curious if more sets of eyes could help with identifying. I see the 7 on the right side but nothing on the right, I can tell it's a brass fount from around the rim. And the stamp "the Coleman stove and lamp co." We're 1928-1945 Thanks in advance https://i.postimg.cc/k579rVM9/IMG-20240...
