If it’s galvanized steel then you would MIG weld it. It would be extremely difficult to TIG weld. The metal doesn’t stay clean enough for that type of welding. EvapoRust is my “miracle sauce” I use for removing rust from anything. Granted it may remove paint also as you are cleaning it off but sounds like you aren’t concerned about that, yet.

OH and BTW. If you have goodwill near by they always have glass jars with caps. It’s just if they are selling them for less than they are normally priced at stores already. Sometimes you have to wait for their % off days to get them.
