If it’s galvanized steel then you would MIG weld it. It would be extremely difficult to TIG weld. The metal doesn’t stay clean enough for that type of welding. It can be done but it’s just easier to do it with wire at the correct temperature. Hmmm…this kinda gives me an idea for some of my less “cle...
I would suggest going the complete opposite direction, and shooting it several times with a .45. That way you can put other non working parts on it and say it saved you from some sort of outrageous attack? I mean if your worried about hiding it why not instead highlight it as a conversation piece fo...
I have several nickel plated versions of the collar and I am looking for (1 or 2) of the steel versions to partner up with my project 242c’s that I am rebuilding. Please PM me with what you have and provide some photos also if you could. I can use PPFF and if you don’t use it then I can send a check...
One piece cap started in 197 so probably original? https://www.oldtowncoleman.com/safety/coleman-filler-cap-safety.htm I didn't know they made Coleman pressure appliances that long ago. Lol What you didn’t see the lantern on the ground in the bushes when Moses dropped the tablet that contained comm...
So I am attacking several of my 242B, and C lanterns and I am wondering are they steel or are they nickel plated brass? Or even something else? I can’t find the info in the “guide/bible” book.
OK well considering it sounds like it would be something we could do how many of you like KOA campgrounds? The other thing is I would like to not only have a meetup where it might not be a camp out and very likely also do a camp out too. There are plenty of places we could find or whatever. So as th...
Well then. I was quite happy that we are getting interest on this because I would gander that if we found a place we would just need to figure out a date to do it. It’s late in the evening for me at the moment so I will re-visit this tomorrow.
OK so that's the box with the part number and all that good stuff or was it handy just for a pics of valve? Link for a fuel-rated Schrader valve core: https://www.oldcolemanparts.com/select-your-model-here/SELECT-LANTERN-MODEL/242-thru-295/290-1/290/275-valve-core-r510 Link for a box of ten: https:...
Yes this is a B-Day purchase for someone dear to me. I would prefer if I just got a fount for whatever product was produced as I have pretty much the other 95% of each of the items. But if you have a complete item that is fine also. I don’t know if the 200a ever was produced in that month of that ye...
Alright I plan on picking some up tomorrow and doing a little area on the bottom first to see what pressure I need to apply and then I will work on the “seeable” parts.
So I am going through the final stages of cleaning up my 443 stove. The issue I have run into is I have dipped it into a huge vat of water and dawn dishwashing liquid. After I soaked it overnight in the water I took some 00 steel wool and applied some pressure to clean off the surface gunk. It came ...
Does clocking affect the operation of the lantern? ....least of your problems. Just my opinion. The only time that clocking sh(w)ould effect operation is if it is completely 180° flipped from it’s normal placement, and is either too tight or loose (more of an issue if loose). It’s not so much an op...
Thanks everyone for you replies. I think I'll go lay down by my dish and lick my wounds. I paid too much for a misrepresented 200A lantern. This perfect unused no dents on chips lantern is used and the vent is chipped and dented witch is the worst part, I can fix up the rest. Cheers Dave Nicely dra...
The saddest thing in all of this is the fact that it’s never the dogs fault. It’s always the fault of the individuals who choose to either neglect or teach dogs to be the way they are. By nature we are talking about animals that are ingrained from birth anyway. But it’s the human intervention that d...
So stopped by the “Brass armadillo” today in Denver, CO. Looked at all the stuff they had along with all the overpriced Coleman lanterns, and coolers (among other things). - 228J without globe or original vent $65 - 200a with cracked globe and horribly beat up vent $125 These we’re typical prices. B...
Now the next concern is how to I go about getting the valve needle replaced as what was inside this one is bent. The spring and element inside the generator are good and work but I am concerned about straightening this one out and hoping that it does what it needs to do properly. Ross Glad you have...
I have found the Sears water decals on FleaBay. I will scrounge up the listing from when I purchased it and post it here when I find it. Good person also. When the first ones disappeared he sent me a 2nd set no charge, and then the original set showed up a month later.
OK so my end goal was not finding a globe that “fit” only, but additionally it had the proper “logo, etching, style” of writing that was on it also. I have a globe that I pulled from another Kamplite lantern I have that has the (Heat Resistant) wording on it and is similar to all the globes that we’...
I think I have a globe but don’t know for sure? Find it and try it? Ok well that didn’t answer my question. Sorry, Ross, as far as wondering if the one you might have fits, how else could one know but try? Hmmm, maybe even one like that floating around here. No worries from this end of the island! ...
Bingo! https://i.postimg.cc/0NF0fGc8/IMG-5563.jpg So the culprit…a stuck and frozen spring. I pulled the F/A tube and the spring was frozen in place. So I had to spray carb cleaner in it and use a pointy tool (yea that’s my technical classification) and gently press down and up and down and up. Over...
That’s kinda what I had figured so I wanted to find out here first so if there was any other things I might have needed to do on the Canadian valve assemblies that was different from the US ones I would attack them then complete that. So I will tear that apart a little later on this afternoon and po...
So I purchased my B-Day (2 of 1971) 635 lantern a few months ago from major_man . I have just finally gotten around to start my rebuild on it. https://i.postimg.cc/9MPpWVYy/IMG-5539.jpg I have done this so far to clean up and replace what I feel was needed… - Cleaned, and re-installed CV - Oiled lea...
So could I just dunk the bottom in a shallow tray of the stuff and fill the inside with it and let it sit? You might end up with an air pocket under the fount. Try propping it upside-down and filling the depression with Evaporust. Then cover with plastic wrap to slow any evaporation of the fluid. A...
Order some SuperZilla from Amazon. https://i.postimg.cc/ZYcsrv0t/IMG-4912.jpg After I was introduced to it. I use it, and also what I call the Miracle Sauce (EvapoRust) to clean everything up on all my lanterns, and stoves. Use the Superzilla to clean all the gunk off of the case inside and out. The...
Better call that certain insurance company..... Liberty? That's an emu, and their droppings are the size of a newborn child's head! Gonna need more than plastic to keep your vents safe. :) Ross P.S. Flo used to be sexy but now that she is more popular looks like she's putting on some stardust pound...
As crazy as it sounds…Try and find a 8” cement tube that is used for decking. You can get small pieces of plywood also and use them for the top and bottom. They are easy to cut with almost any saw and you can custom make them the exact height where you drill a hole in the top piece of plywood to hol...
Anyone know if the modern “one size” plastic lantern totes from Coleman will work? All depends on what “modern” you mean? None of the red, or black two piece, or mustard colored clamshell plastic cases produced in the 70’s, 80’s or beyond will hold anything with an older style vent because they are...
Vintage Shupps lantern tote..Russ https://i.imgur.io/7qC4A4Z_d.webp?maxwidth=640&shape=thumb&fidelity=medium https://i.imgur.io/86VI02E_d.webp?maxwidth=640&shape=thumb&fidelity=medium https://i.imgur.io/eWASaju_d.webp?maxwidth=640&shape=thumb&fidelity=medium Interesting. I am not sure what purpose ...
While I love the majority of Coleman Products. I just love the colors of the Sears products. Off the top of my head I don’t remember all the model numbers of each of their stoves and lanterns but my goal is to have one of each model in every color they produced. Everything I restore I keep and I use...
So a few weeks ago I picked this up from AndrewBrown here on the Classifieds. https://i.postimg.cc/YCvY9DVP/IMG-0293.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/sxK7Bksk/IMG-0294.jpg This is what it looked like when I dusted it off and started my own work on it… https://i.postimg.cc/vmdTsPdf/IMG-5510.jpg https://i.pos...
EvapoRust is my “miracle sauce” I use for removing rust from anything. Granted it may remove paint also as you are cleaning it off but sounds like you aren’t concerned about that, yet.
OH and BTW. If you have goodwill near by they always have glass jars with caps. It’s just if they are selling them for less than they are normally priced at stores already. Sometimes you have to wait for their % off days to get them.
Great idea! My great-uncle would screw the lids into a piece of plywood suspended from the ceiling of his garage (low ceiling)...and just unscrew the jar when he needed a nut, screw etc. But then, that was probably the 'thing' back in the 40's and 50's. It’s still a thing as I do the same in my wor...
Bike stores will literally give you old cables free as it helps with them having to dispose of them. If you are wanting to pick up more than one (to make a nice stash for yourself). Just drop by on a Monday and say you are going to swing by on Friday if they don’t have many available at the time. I ...
So I’ve been going back and forth between different models and I can’t really find the exact correct version as it’s been like one piece is correct but otherwise other parts aren’t and then when I researched another model those parts are correct but not all of them are correct?
OK so I have been to Terry Marsh’s site on the Prentess Wabers stoves. I found this yesterday at a local Antique store and picked it up for $15. https://i.postimg.cc/Jz7j6Y8j/IMG-5391.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/K89Bd7cw/IMG-5392.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/5yMCwnpY/IMG-5393.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/sfpSV...
