The amount you need depends on how warm the bath temp is (cooler is much slower) and how long you want to wait for it to be 'done'. I like to use a fleece sleeping bag as a liner for common 30* bags and add from there. Goodwill stores are a good source for camp bedding.

I used lysol brand toilet bowl cleaner. Anything in gel form is great for being more selective (I masked the coleman logo).

I've never done plating before, but I'm no stranger to prep. Anodizing is seriously unforgiving and my power supply is quite 'fancy pants' in performance, but built (quite hastily I might add) by me to save a ton of money.
