Nice save. Some may see a lost cause or parts. I would find a nice piece of flame or curly maple for a new handle, it would be a banging look on that.

That would be ZERO for me as I have nothing to use it with. Yet! Trust me, you do this long enough and you will. There was a time i had zero 200’s and 242’s, now im tripping over them. I have one genuine dark red globe from OCP. Cost me $38.00 about 8 years ago give or take. My wife would either ki...

Re: 220/228 burner tubes?

Length is all... Coleman used several different length tubes on their double mantles and I can't see much difference in how they run either.. they did have some with a tapered lead in the late 20's and early 30's, but again I see very little difference in how they operate. I just picked up some 2-3...

Without mentioning the obvious difference of 1/8". What is the difference between a 2-3/4" and a 2-7/8" burner tube?

Re: How did y’all’s moms cook?

My mother learned to cook from her mother and mother-in-law. Both of my grandmothers grew up during the great depression. I bet a lot of the things we ate growing up were a carry-over or inspired from that period. Growing up, I liked my mom's cooking, I liked both of my grandmother's cooking. I know...

Re: Leaking valve?

Sometimes loose bits of graphite will work their way out along with a fuel leak at the packing nut. Usually snugging up the nut and/or cleaning the valve stem with some 4/0 steel wool takes care of it. If not, I replace the packing. It was a very slow leak but still a danger. I think the packing ma...

Leaking valve?

I didn't think to take pictures. Has anyone ever encountered some sort of funk build up in a valve stem at the valve nut behind the valve wheel? I got a B 50 228D a few months ago. I cleaned it up a little and fired it up. After a few times running, I found a leak at that nut. I removed the valve st...

Re: The 275 brownie acting weird

I’m a first timer and have picked up a few lanterns. None of them are highly collectible, they’re just cool. In particular, I’ve grown fond of my 275 which some call “the turd.” I cleaned it all out from top to bottom. It lights easy and burns well. About 45 minutes into the burn the other night, a...

Nice guitars gentlemen. Very nice. I've wondered about getting a tele or strat, but back in the day when I played my buddy's strat the neck felt thin and narrow compared to my LP copy, and I didn't like it. I don't know that I will ever own a Gold Bond. I am more into the Oldies. I love the old ones. I love the look of the old vents on lanterns. I like my 200A's from the 50's. I look at rust and get scared. It can be slowed down. Rust will eventually win without intervention. If I can win that fight for a few more years, and enjoy a piece of history, I will take that as a win. Others may disagree with my thoughts. History lost without a fight could be seen as history not ...
