Re: Last years of Coleman quality?

Yes the 639 is a mighty fine lantern, no argument there, but in reality it is just a cheaper to make version of the 237. Some build quality was lost but the function quality remained, and people bought them because they did the job at an affordable price. I still rate the Canadian 237 as the last "q...

That dent is just a littler too deep and the metal will be stretched in the center and also around the dent. Even if you could get in behind it, it would not be an easy task to get it looking nice again. I vote to leave it, I have 237 with a similar dent, it goes so well it is a go to favourite, des...

Re: Last years of Coleman quality?

Well I do admit that I have a 639, bought it by accident mind, part of a deal. It performs faultlessly and has done so for some time. I doubt though that the generator will run as long, without cleaning, compared to any of my 237's. I had a 66 Mustang when it wasn't that old, terrible car to drive, ...

Re: Last years of Coleman quality?

The Canadians kept making quality Colemens well into the 60's. My first Lantern was a new 339 in 1973, it has been a good lantern and has been used hard, I still have it. I have only bought older Canadian lanterns and stoves since because of the superior quality. 242, 247, 249, 236, 237, 500 etc fea...

About 30 something yrs ago I started bringing home lanterns and hammering nails into the rafters of my shed to hang them on. I remember people commenting and I think I was viewed as a little bit weird.

The Optimus 111B could be described as a very small suitcase stove, I guess Coleman was targeting a different market. Having said that I love the Idea of cutting down a Coleman double burner. It would make sense to cut down the case as well. Maybe the tank would also need shortening to get the right...

Watch this space, the winds will be up and there will be some spectacular racing.

This will be the formula one of yacht racing with a twist on every turn.

Yes this may be the one and only time that they race these boats, early days yet though, all they need is a bit of wind and they will be off.

The older class boats would have been still sailing. Out of my hands though, I still look on with interest.
