I've done that Duane - rapped on the glowing gen as it runs and flip the tip cleaner occasionally. Usually helps.

Re: Cleaning 400 stove generator

Hey Steven, just got my new gen for my 400b. Works great. No chance of salvaging the old one however since it appears the pricker wire is gone, burned up probably. That wire can be replaced. I did it on a 445. Did you fab/cut the wire yourself or purchase it? Did you peen it or silver solder?

Can it even be done?

I have had limited success with using alcohol and a soft cloth but too much and the paint will slowly disappear too.

Not sure if something like EvapoRust will hurt the paint.

So, it's a lantern. Pics would be great.

I just picked up my first black Peak 1- 400b stove. My plan is to remove the gen, see if the tip can be removed, then heat and quench the gen with a torch then water until it runs clear.

Others may have their own approaches and chime in soon.

It's Coleman fuel. Coleman fuel (Naphtha) was used indoors for decades. It will eat up oxygen in a very, very, tightly closed room. This is from Dr. Marsh's website: "Instant-Lite Model 132A was manufactured from 1935-49." Brass can be made shiny again in many ways. soak them in citric acid and keep...
