I got my second Pfizer shot yesterday. I'm 64, but have prior conditions so they called me and had me get on the list about a month ago. First shot three weeks ago and second shot yesterday. I'm good to go, far as I know.

Put enough sugar into something and almost anything will taste good! I don't think it will work for kale cake, though. Kale is vile. Tomatoes are just... red.

"Hard solder" means silver braze, Jim. It's a jeweler's name for the properly named silver braze. About the lowest temp you can get silver braze is around 1140 F. All solder melts below 800 F. That is how the AWS defines solder melting points as opposed to brazing temps.

I wonder why some of us think brass founts are better. Firstly, both brass and steel fount lanterns use steel for the bottom of the fount. Second, I have never seen a steel fount with stress cracks, because there are none. Steel is stronger than brass, too, in the same dimension and especially in th...

When I make these kind of things I usually use a small center drill or very small countersink spinning in the mill and index with my rotary table. Both of those tooling items are made from HSS. Plenty good for anything up to mild steel, and they are quite inexpensive. Dan had to do it a little harde...

One of the nicest lathes Atlas made was the 6" with the Timkin roller headstock. I have a plain bearing one that I used for some years, but it had to be put into storage to make some room in the shop, mainly because machines were starting to bump into each other. I don't know of any other real lathe...

Don't have to worry about the mica. It's like see-through stone. A mineral that is not bothered by heat. Remember, the Air-O-Lanterns (327 type) came with "globes" made from mica, 'cept when they are made of mica they are called a chimney. No, I don't know why.

Spring... I remember Spring... Isn't that like the last week in June? Starts right after 4th of July here, Timm. We have a three day celebration each 4th of July here with parades, street sports and like that. A town wide celebration that has been going on over a century. No kidding, more than once...

The globes that Coleman used (I don't know about the new ones) had a 400° F temperature differential quality. So, if the globe was 300° F and the snow is 30° F, that is only 270 degrees differential. Well within the design of the glass. That is why Coleman could advertise the lanterns as all weather...

In a worse scenario, there could be a small hole in the pump tube nearer the lower half of the tube. No, it doesn't look unfired to me. It looks spray bombed. As for the generator, look at the color of the brass fittings on the rest of the stove. They have gone to a sort of soft yellow-tan color. The color of the genny is black. The reason it is black is oxidation. From having a fire under it. If i...
