You want a 413G tank. Same gen and valve, the tank assemblies are interchangeable. That is the big advantage of the D as those 413G tanks are easy to find.
Jim, the problem I have with the schrader valve being able to control flow is it is in the fuel section and not the gas section like the wire on the cleaning needle is. I believe the liquid expands something like 250 times when it becomes a gas and would therefore be extremely difficult to dim a lan...

ke4ljh wrote: That clears things up nicely.

Would it be fair to say that if a lantern has a separate cleaning needle adjustment from the main valve, then it does not have a schrader valve?

Yes. Of cours...
Just so we are clear here the Schrader valve does not provide the adjustment on the adjustable lanterns. The valve just turns the the lantern off and on. The cleaning needle provides the adjustment, it is just built into the mechanism on the main valve instead of having a separate lever.
The ...
The lantern will run on kerosene if you preheat the generator before lighting so there was no damage done. Just dump out the kero and refill with Coleman fuel or unleaded gas, no need to rinse the fount (tank) out.
As far as the leaking gen nut I would back it off and re tighten it. That should...
It could have been an operator error as was stated earlier if he tilted the lantern in order to completely fill it and then put the cap on. Lanterns are designed with an air space at the top must only be filled in the level position. The check valve would also have to be leaking a little but that is...
Man, this comes up on here quite often and the answer is LEADED GAS. That stuff will clog a standard 220 gen in a font full. It is really nasty stuff. It will also clog burner tubes and screens.
This us the correct case for your lantern. X3 on making sure the taps are locked in when you close the case. They work fine as long as you do this. <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" hr...
My concern with using silicone would be that nothing sticks to it including the Caswells. I'm not sure what you could use to get rid of the silicone that gets on the inside.

White Gas is 114,000 BTU'sper gallon
Propane has 91,000 BTU's per gallon
Propane weghs approx. 4.25 lbs per gallon

Small canisters are 16.4 oz, so it takes a little over 4 canisters to make a gallon of propane. The canisters contain approx 22,500 BTU's. If you devide that into 114...
If you run out of gas in the middle of nowhere and need to go 10 or so miles to a gas station a half gallon to a gallon max of coleman fuel might do the trick. But remember this is mixing with whats left in the tank that you can't get out, which is at least half a gallon and probably more depending ...
I'm pretty sure they are not interchangeable. The 414 uses the same tank and generator as the 428. However the 426D uses the same tank and generator as the 413G which will burn unleaded gas just fine as long as the tank is not coated and I have not ran across a 413G with a coated tank.

T...
Anything that will run off the small cylinders should be fine on a bulk tank as Dean said the only difference is a larger surface area and capacity allows the bulk tank to provide more BTUs to devices that need it. So unless you are exceeding the BTU capacity of the small cylinder, the pressure will...
I just checked my 200A collection and I have a 11/79 with no coating and a 6/80 with coating. So it looks like it was 1980 before they started with the coatings. Maybe a few people could check there stock to confirm.
Ya Jim, that's where I'm at. For those of you that don't know the first Coleman coatings where pretty bad and will not hold up to unleaded gas. It would be nice to know when the coatings became unleaded friendly.

JimL wrote: Yes, it's there to ensure you destroy your pricker wire when rebuilding a generator, and to ensure that you regret not tossing it before re-installing the cleaning/pricker rod.

X2 I must have destroyed 3 or 4 wires before I started checking ...
I don't think loctite 542 is rated for use on food machinery. You might want to check this out before continued use in a brewery. Works great on lanterns though.
The wire lever controls the fuel/air tube rod, up inserts the rod into the bottom hole for starting. As I recall the orifice insert only fits one way where it looks right. The problem you have with the stove is probably caused by a partially plugged burner tube by spider webs or mud dabber nest. Edi...
The primary burner should be the larger of the two and should have a restricter plate.

People sometimes reverse the two hoping to get more heat o...

I agree that the quads where not used on all millspecs until at least the mid 50s but I have always heard that they came out in 52. I have a 55 that has straight glass also.

The generators are pretty much the same as most other coleman lanterns. The one thing about the 288 type lanterns is they must have very clean fuel as they have a couple of small ports in the F/A tube that are critical to there operation.

There were definitely 3 piece caps on some 73 200a's. They might have found a few cases in the back and decided to use them, who knows. In any case there was no specific date that the switch was made. I have not seen a 74 with a 3 piece cap.

Roland, perhaps the thing to use would be a 220 fount. You would need to solder a few fittings on but it would handle the pressure with no worries and we all have them laying around.
