My wife’s aunt found this 5402B in their garage this summer. She gave it to me knowing I collect Coleman. It’s in nice shape for an early 60’s stove. Just wiped the dust off. Used it most of the summer to perk coffee. Coleman called it a Picnic Stove. Pretty unique color!

Yup. This would be great if it works. I’ve also made them and the hardest part for me is getting that crimp right.

I’ve found for the time and effort, it wasn’t worth it on common generators.

Nice lamp! That model is not easy to come by. I really enjoy restoring Tilleys. A good cleaning and polishing and all new seals is usually all they need. Got all the parts in: new mantle frame and glass chimney from Kirkman and a couple of mantles off of E bay.
Put it all together and it’s running great!

If I was near my lanterns I’d look for a spare. You can clean the gas tip with a 200A pricker rod to get you by. Unscrew the gas tip and go from the inside out. The wire will center itself doing it this way.

Thanks Chuck. Got it put together and it works fine. Next is to order the mantle frame and mantle. Kirkman has them both on sale but are out of stock on the mantle.

I sold heavy equipment and sold a lot of Terex. 4-71, 6-71, 8V71. TS-14 and TS-24 scrapers were very popular in my area back in the day. Those engine were LOUD and leaked but were tough, easy to rebuild.

The cylinder rod shouldn’t bend like that. They should be made out of hardened steel. They usually break clean or even shatter.

There are some attachment manufacturers that aren’t very good and won’t hold up to hard work.

A lot of times the cleaning lever wire is twisted off the gear that fits the generator rack from somebody trying to spin the lever. It only goes 180° up then down. That generator on there might be the best thing.
I use a leather punch and a sheet of Buna N for the pip.

Put impact driver away. Hitting it with a hammer will loose/tighten but you can also loosen the plug at the bottom of the pump tube. I don’t know if it’s crimped or soldered but either way, it can damage your lantern. If your going to be in this hobby invest in a check valve removal tool. Cigar Mike...

I do the same as a Jim. New mantle, start with low pressure. Even the Coleman #21 mantles from Wally do just fine doing it this way.
