Re: Poultry lantern questions

The Coleman Guide is incorrect in regards to referring to the differences in Poultry / Jumbo stenciling to without / with built in pump.
Jumbo was marketed both ways for some time simultaneously.

Greg, my 1923 example has original rope and steel wool is also coarse and pretty compact.

It could be an earlier base plate that got buried and then found, or a genuine 6/72 fount that was damaged in production and pulled, repainted and put back on the line months later. A former Coleman employee from that time period says that happened when lanterns were dropped, or the paint job wasn'...

The R55 appeared early 1929 and was the first generator offered as standard equipment on the 480 hot ray heater. You will notice these appear to have a removable mechanism like the AGM variety. Yes these are not common, but there is a variant that is actually rare, the 143P poultry version would be much harder to acquire.
Another one would be the Blue vent version that Randall found.

Both brim and brimless can be correct for 1935, as with nearly all Coleman components there was transitioning (bleed over) likely due to parts intermingling on the line and using up old inventory mixed in with new.

Hi Mike, that is a late L427, 1934 through 1940, the knurled 3 piece fuel cap, and bakelite valve wheel are correct, the brim vent is not.
