You can park there now as there is no longer a risk of that particular tree falling on your truck. :)

Re: $5 scrap yard lantern

I suggest drilling a big hole in the fount so anyone in the future knows it ain't safe. Some may suggest using a tank sealer like Caswell's, but I would never recommend that on a compromised fount. Coleman wasn't cheap when it came to founts and that metal was not thin to begin with. You could turn ...

Welcome to the forum! If your eccentric block isn't metal, then yes, it would be a good idea to change it out. I don't know that anyone could tell by the year, since if it did originally contain one, it may have already been swapped. You'll need to remove the generator to confirm either way. A heat ...

It's awesome your dad has this stuff and I'm sure he will love a pic with several lit! Don't be in a rush to do anything with that Thermos lantern unless it has a separate pump and filler cap. The combo ones can be and sometimes are dangerous. Raw fuel can suddenly shoot out of the pump and ignite. ...

I remembered reading of the pumps cracking over time, and since you can get replacements, I passed on one complete setup for $10 at a yard sale last year. Looking back, I wish I had gotten it.

If the price is ok with you, I think you ought to consider it.

I seriously doubt that the packing included asbestos. As much of a pain it is to remove the valve from the fount, do it, making certain to keep everything level. These founts can be easy to bend if you don't. Also, don't allow any strain on the end of the valve where the knob goes. I broke one once ...

With the 275, can't you remove the frame, leaving the generator in place? If so, I suggest doing that, then with the generator exposed, remove the generator tip and move the valve off and on to inspect the behavior. There's a good chance you can clean the generator. It's a matter of removing the pricker rod and captive bushing. Sometimes you can pull the pricker rod through, even though it's crimped on the upper side of the bushing. Otherwise, you'll need to knock them both through, with the generator tip off o...

You have some nice stuff in your collection. Collecting is addicting, so you need to be careful you don't stock up on undesirables. Suitcase stoves tend to fall into that category, as well as any common lanterns in your area. In the US, it's 220's that are the undesirable lanterns. I used to buy the...

Yes, leaking at the end of the shaft. However, you just cleaned it, so it's possible a particle of debris is caught there. If any liquid is in the fount, I suggest pumping it up and opening the valve for a second to flush it. It may or may not resolve the issue, but if it does, it'll save you from t...

No, you needn't do anything with the generator. If you straighten it, it will likely bend again with the heat. The lantern doesn't care so why should you? I've mentioned it in the past, but if you have cramps, swallow a teaspoon of mustard and those cramps will be gone in one minute. For extreme cramps where you can barely move, it may take a second tablespoon. Supposedly, it's the turmeric in the mustard that does it.
