The last couple weeks here the temp has ranged from 95 to 100.
Here in south Louisiana it’s not the heat so much as the humidity that will getcha.
It just takes the starch right out of ya!

That’s a steal for $5.
I grabbed a couple 5000’s a few years back at a flea market for $20 each if I remember correctly.

Re: High mileage vehicles- let's see em
I had a ‘98 Jeep Cherokee with 343,000 miles on the 4.0 I-6.
A few years back I overheated it, which put it out of commission. I think it would still be running today if I hadn’t tried to push it.
I still have the engine but haven’t rebuilt it (yet).

Those 502’s… 😍 Concerning the post about price, it is definitely appreciated by some of us less knowledgeable on pricing to get a ballpark about what is a reasonable price and what is not. That said, I personally understand people not revealing prices or sources. When I was building up my cast iron...

Re: Local Antique Mall / Flea Market Yard Sale
I have found an issue with the HGP. The cast iron stove grate has a crack through it, midway between two of the support brackets. Should I have it brazed? I’m concerned that something heavy on the burner might break off a piece of it entirely. Brain so you have a photo of the crack? [/quote] Here y...

Check the HGP bottom side seam for corrosion and rust. Be careful. Pump it up and do a pressure test before you use it. Check for leaks. Rust through is common on these - especially if stored where condensation can occur. It looks pretty solid all the way around, but I also want to look at the insi...

Local Antique Mall / Flea Market Yard Sale
Today our local Antique Mall / Flea Market held its first yard sale in two years due to the pandemic. I got there as soon as it opened. First thing I saw was this set of 502 stoves. I got into this collecting hobby about 7-8 years ago and it was fairly easy to find commons for $20 or less.
I guess I got spoiled, I managed some very good deals on a 202, 327 and 427. Just luck, I suppose.

Re: You can still find some decent deals out there
The fount appears to be in good shape on the inside, very minimal rust.
I took a pic of the original globe after cleaning it up.
I seem to be having bad luck with check valves, this one is blowing fuel back into the pump tube when I pump it up, so I may have to pull it.

Re: You can still find some decent deals out there
Got the fuel cap off fairly easily.
The fount was about half full of what I can only describe as a syrupy mixture of old gas and tar.
I doubt there’s any rust on the inside, but I’ll have to dump some drain cleaner in and let it soak for a bit.
Gonna have to do a complete tear down and cleaning.

Found this Sears today at one of my favorite flea markets. It's a little rough, but solid. Has one bad spot in the vent area, and obviously a good amount of paint loss. A couple small chips in the porcelain, but I think once it's painted and cleaned up, it will look good. The valve and pricker lever...
