Is this a military variant? Just asking as making a noisy camping lantern could be something they would not want to do. Being adventurous, I would try putting an appropriate screen in and see if it performs better.

Are the just the threads somewhat flattened, or did the threaded boss itself get mashed out of round? It's a good idea to keep the cleaning lever nut on the boss for protection when attempting to remove the valve assembly from the tank.

Seems you have two separate problems, one is the generator nut fuel leak, and a possible Schrader valve leak. These types of lanterns are mechanically different from the 220 type lanterns and operate somewhat differently. With the fuel control valve closed and the tank pressurized, if raw fuel start...

I went ahead and put a second new Peerless thoriated mantle on the 285, burned it in, and then pumped the lantern up good and tight. With good pressure in the 285, it is able to drive the mantles pretty well.

Sounds like time to do a test to see if the stove will maintain the pressure cooker at the required pressure for the desired length of time, and assuming it is outside. Find out early instead of late.

You need to figure out how you keep breaking them. No magic bullet for "stabilizing" a burned in mantle.

I don't have either lantern, but from what I've seen, one should be able to throttle back the 226 and have it perform at the same output of a 222. If the 226 can be throttled back, then a win/win improvement from Coleman.

Does it leak when the pump needle valve is closed? If it does not leak after the needle valve is closed, then you probably have an air leak elsewhere, possibly the fuel cap gasket.

Try decaf... ;) I wouldn't think more than two or three tack welds would be needed to keep the top attached to the vent, but it is not my project. As to the copper, the enamel may melt and stick to the copper. Will be interesting.

A water soaked wad of paper towels or cloth on the enamel side might work as a heat sink as the tack weld arc time should be short.

Farmer Brown probably did. If I needed more/new packing, grease wetted cotton twine would be my first thought as a fix.
