The 458G's were discontinued in the early 40's. The catalogs don't show the labels as they really were, but I tend to think the earlier label would have been correct - but I'm not positive. I third the date on the pressure gauge, my HGP model 575 has a date on the back of the inner plate (1/37).

I used to belong to a turtle and tortoise club and at one meet, someone brought a bowsprit (angulate) tortoise from South Africa. That was the most aggressive tortoise I had ever seen. He attacked every shoe he met, pushing and shoving and sometimes mounting them.

The 412-253 valve stem for the 425 and earlier stoves is different than than the 500-253 valve stem, but I think it's just the knob end not the length or girth of the stem, they look the same side-by-side. The 500 has the integral knob and the 425 has a screw-on knob. It looks like they are the same...

I have seen that globe, well the more common variant with the logo at the bottom, most commonly on 242's dated from 10/46 to 9/47. However, I did note one on an 11/45 242C, but I would expect the "Coleman" on that one...but again, "who knows"?

In 1933, the U.S. model number for the straight globe was "242". By 1935, the part number for that bulge globe was 550. In the 1934 & 1938 Canadian parts catalogs it was #242. I don't remember the actual dimensions, but the B has a large fount stamp where the rays of the sun go up to the curve and the smaller C stamp is more compact and the rays don't go up nearly that far. Then again, I've never seen a 3/38 242B...yet. 8/43 is very unlikely and would be green, not nickel.

Actually, I probably need about 7 of them. I think someone was going to have Dean make some, but then I never heard any more about it. Not only to you need to bend them, but then you'd have to file each one to make a flat section at the bottom end.

Well it looks like I've fettled this lantern since taking those photos, and it looks a little better now. The vent is a cut down 220 vent with silver paint, partly scraped off. There's a ball nut now. The Q99 generator works well. Shipping looks like it will be approximately $15 if I put it in a box...
