Re: Preventing Flash Rust

I have used VHT Flameproof Satin Clear and almost always it turns a slight yellowish brown. After oven curing or during use. I’ve never had it peel off. Surface prep is key. I wipe down parts with acetone or alcohol right before I paint.

Re: Paint

Dawn mist green? One of the photos on EPay shows a real light green, unlike any stove or lantern I have. Certainly not Dark Hunter Green.

Re: M1942 NRV spring

Two questions

1) when did the 1942 change from the pip holder on the top (I'm calling this Type 1) to the one on the bottom (Type 2).

2) are there any replacement springs for the Type 1? The OCP spring only works with the Type 2. They dont seem to fit into the bottom of the Type 1 pip holder.

Re: Pinhole Leak in generator

The pinhole turns out to be a small crack. And it is on the inside of the bend. My good buddy Paul suggested that I should wrap that section with some brass wire and then silver solder it on. I'm going to try it - who cares if it looks ugly if it works.

Re: M-1942 Stove generator washer question

That washer needs to be replaced the same way it is found. It it’s not reversible. Sklcolorado has a post about it. I’ll try to find it.

Thanks for all the advice. The only silver solder I have is only 5-10% so, I'll need to get some with a higher content.

Re: Pinhole Leak in generator

Will silver solder hold up where the leak is. It’s not directly above the flames but I assume it will get really hot.

Pinhole Leak in generator

Finally got the 576 put back together. Fired right up. But a persistsnt yellow flame on one side was puzzling until i shut it down. Is there anyway to braze the gen tube? Id like yo try to fix it since the 576 uses one of those unobtanium generators. And if you can find one it will cost about 90 buc...

Pump plunger question

I've got a 576 stove that I'm cleaning up. And the aluminum pump handle is pittied so badly you can't read any imprint.

Can this aluminum top be separated from the brass tube?

Sears 742-431 mica globe size?

I picked up this nice Sears lantern a while back and just started to work on it. First thing I noticed is that the mica globe is too tall for the frame. I am pretty sure this is a replacement as it looks new (albeit a bit rusty) and I also noticed a 4-15 (date?) stamp on the inside. Anyone know the ...

Re: Model #for Sears Stove

Thanks. I assumed it was a Coleman and the 476 confirms that.

The case is odd in that the sides extend in all directions beyond the case and there are no legs. I can’t imagine why Coleman would make a different case for Sears that would entail a big difference like this.
