Re: Happy Optimus 99 day

The 99 is next on my SBS list. They seem common enough so I'm trying to not pay more than $100, but the wait goes on. Actually I'm really interested in the 199 International, but finding one of those for less than $100 seems unlikely.

Re: When’s the last time you bought a nickel lantern?

Not counting the 242 I got in trade, or the Akron 400g/MW 14, which I believe is chrome plated, it looks like a 237 I got August of last year. Before that it was a 202 in Nov '22.

Re: WTB: Svea 123 Flame Spreader

You can send an email to Katadyn customer service and they'll likely send you a new one for free. Ive gotten 2 caps and a key from them. Always offer to pay. And a friend of mine wanted a spreader and they sent the whole burner bell with it. Outstanding customer service. They will be made in China/A...

Undated US Coleman 523

Another one for the Gallery (how is there not a 523 already!?)... This is a Coleman model 523 two burner, gasoline stove, made for the US Army Medical Dept. during WW2. https://i.postimg.cc/GhNn1Qcn/temp-Imageencv5j.avif It comes packaged in an aluminum case with a stainless steel lid, engraved with...

Re: age of a 413f stove

The 413F was 62-64, and Coleman didn't start date stamping the suitcase stoves in the usual manner until 64. So if it's not a 64, then it's 62 or 63. Not satisfying? Try putting a date on an Optimus stove!

I often see well-used suitcase stoves on FB marketplace in our area listed for $80-100. I just shake my head.
I also try to keep prices down locally when I sell. I could probably get more for them but A) I want them out of my garage and B) keep prices low.

Re: purchase advice

I wish you could find $10 stoves around here- if you can find me some I'll buy every one! Not every place has the same prices and availability so please don't discourage someone based on what things go for where you live. OK, fair enough. Next time I find a $10 425D I'll try to rehome it to someone...

Re: purchase advice

Heres another vote for the 425C. If you have the lodge griddle, the recessed cooking grate keeps it from sliding off the front and has better legs than the NL or B. But as others said, you cant go wrong with any of them. The differences are minor. We don't give values here but there's no reason to p...

Re: 1945 US Coleman 528 M-1942-MOD

Nice stove Carlton. I like the Coleman - Aladdin partnership. It was wartime, and lots of companies were building things that were not part of their regular line. What's the back-story? Was it just sitting in a basement somewhere waiting to be found? I've had this for a while. Got it at an antiques...

1945 US Coleman 528 M-1942-MOD

This is the Coleman model 528, built to the military specification of the M-1942MOD for soldiers in WW2. This spec was also built by Aladdin and Prentiss-Wabers between 1943 and 1945, but Coleman only produced them in 1945. Aladdin stamps its name on the burner windscreen, and Prentiss-Wabers prints...

Just kidding. Neat stove. I'd have it.

I had an A 47 220C for a hot second. Kameron thought it was rare/unusual enough and bought it off me. I still regret that sale. In all my collecting I've only ever found 2 220C's (and 2 228's).

Re: Why does my Northstar suck?

Final report on this. I swapped tips and bodies. The new body with the old tip started and ran about the same as new:new. The old body with the new tip was a little slow at startup; too much air, too little fuel, but otherwise ran fine once it cranked. So I left on the new body/old tip configuration...

Re: purchase advice

Correct, the legs/latch are the main difference. The red legs can be a little more troublesome when trying to level. Of minor difference is the presence of vent holes on the sides of the E that are not present on the D. These can also be used to attach the chef trays if you have/find them. My advice...

Yikes! I retract my claim to biggest blob. Ps. Water and simple green got rid of the mud dobber glue from the vent. The high presssure stream from my garden hose knocked most of it down pretty quickly. Wow Carlton, is that an ENC find? Yeah, Chuck. I found it a couple of years ago at the Raleigh fl...

Re: Why does my Northstar suck?

I like the adustable so I can turn the light up when its time to bait up or change tackle, and turn it down when I'm actually fishing so I can enjoy the stars. The back and forth is too much to relight it. Sounds like you need a slant with a T88 gen setup 😁 https://youtube.com/shorts/BkZPY_0nWxc?si...

Hmm... Why does my Northstar suck? Because it's not a 236! I really want to like the adjustables. I really do. I had to fire my 288 from fishing duty because it was so unreliable, despite numberous repairs. I think the plastic pickup doesn't like the sloshing of fuel in the back of a truck when it ...

Re: Why does my Northstar suck?

For cleaning a gen, I find a handgun cleaning kit to work well. Just flush it good afterwards with carb cleaner or you'll be using the tip cleaner a lot to remove remaining particles that made it to the tip. When using heat/quench, I suggest not going all the way down to the flare. I deformed one f...
