Re: Smooth Winged Cap Lanterns?

I have a L227, 220/228 Slants, and first year 220/228B's with the smooth wing cap. My later B's have non wing 3 piece caps. My two War Time BX's have 3 piece non wing caps also.

Re: 229 03/04 USA

The globe on these were the leftover ones from the silver 229 that Coleman had before they come out with the Exponent line. When they ran out of them, they put on clear globes that did not have any markings on them. Mine has a Made in Mexico sticker on it. No other permeant markings. The different l...

Re: Need gasket changing suggestions

Light a lantern and stick the cap on the ball nut with the center flared part sitting on the nut. Leave it there for about a half hour to an hour. The gasket gets hard like it would if you hit it with a torch. It just crumbles apart when you pick at it. We did this with a painted one piece cap at a ...

Re: Talk me out of buying this Towncar 😐

If it looks as good as the photo and the owner has service records, I would be all over that one. You should be able to talk them down some. 5-6K is the going price for this car in that condition. I have a 20 year old Grand Marques with 281K on it that has been in the family all its life. It is very...

Re: Coleman 440 questions

I would still run Coleman/Crown in a stove. I got my 440 originally because it was duel fuel. My thought was that if I ran out of Coleman Fuel, I could use pump gas from my motorcycle when on a trip. I tried it with unleaded and the smell from the burning pump gas was just nasty. I dumped it out and...

Re: 1945 Military Lantern…did I ruin the Generator?

You are probably fine with what little of the fiber that you took out. I would run Coleman/Crown fuel if the Crown is available in Canada. Your generator will last a lot longer. Even though these old lanterns say use unleaded fuel, the pump gas in the 40's and 50's is not the same stuff you get toda...

Great find. You will like it. It did not come with the wind screen. I don't remember if Coleman even had one back then. The two I have are from other backpacking stove companies. But, they fit and work on the peak great. The only Coleman ones I have seen are the ones sold in Japan. https://i.postimg...

A few people tried to make a Coleman Mantle work on the Aladden Mantle frame. It did not work well. About the only thing that worked was the Aladin Mantle on these lamps. The new factory is starting to produce them again, but can be hard to find.

Nice ones! I probably have over 30 unfired ones. I cringe when someone finds an older unfired lantern and some here say fire it up! You take a very hard to find lantern and turn it in to a run of the mill lantern worth half the price. But, that is just me. My oldest is a painted 242C.

Re: What's the deal with the "Seasons" lanterns?

Japanese market only, yes. I don't know a source offhand right now where you can purchase one, but they are quite expensive (as in several hundred dollars each, as I recall), just in case you didn't know. Made for the Japanese market but available in the US as well. Most of the Coleman Outlet store...

Re: LED headlights

The problem is not really the aiming of the housing, but the LED and the headlight reflector do not line up. The reflective housing is designed for the location of filament of the halogen bulb. The cheaper LED replacements did not get the LED in the right place so the light was not directed down the...

Steve, it is the same vent that is on the newer 288's. A doner 288 should be easy enough to find.

Re: Non serviceable Pump cup

That pump is probably an after market. I can't find it anywhere but OCP. I don't think it is an actual Coleman product. All the newer Coleman pumps have the push on "nut" or retainer. I'm quite fond of the older pump style with the square threaded nut. A used pump assembly isn't that expensive. If ...

They are different from the Coleman items. Sears wanted you to buy the different one because everyone else has a...

I used the calculator that is in post #3 and with the information you gave. It will take 18 hours of good sun to charge to 100% With a 60W panel, I would not let it get below 75% each day.

Make sure you are using a solar charging controller. If not, you could cook the battery.

No, two totally different size founts. The 295 is larger than the 285. You will need to look for another 285 or if the color does not matter to you, a 288. The 288 is dark green but the same size as a 285.

You can either take a strip of wood and drill holes in it spaced far enough apart for the funnels to fit next to each other. Or, just use small blocks of wood so you can put them between lanterns on the shelf. No woodworking skills required. Here are photos of what you could do with the blocks. http...
