Instead of a monkey wrench, clamping the valve in a bench vise will also work.

If your wife bought this lantern from an auctions ite, I'd suggest you ask the seller for a refund of the cost of a repacement globe.

These lanterns like to have a full fount of fuel when first lit to reduce pulsing. Full is filling it on a level surface and fuel level just before fount overflows out the fuel filler. Supposedly, when it pulses, its time to refill it.

This year did have a heat shield.

After one hour, looks like color is flat black on top of vent. Will have to check if glossy after it cools.

Worse thing, so far, is the off gassing of the Cerakote. Very stinky.
