I'll check it out. I had them replaced once years ago by a JBL repair outlet. I was a big afficionado during the "stereo wars" of the 1970's. ancient history now. A big one here was Cal-Stereo and the big advertising guy behind them was Tom Campbell the late-night TV announcer. I remember how nice t...

Re: Stereo advice needed!

I have 2 9090db's and one was rebuilt by EW.
I'd love to get it working again. It sounded incredible. Of course, two JBL 166 speakers sure helped. still have them too, but smog attacks the speaker suspension material.
Thank you for the tip!

Re: Show me those 238’s

Greg could you imagine making one of those? That's a solid bar of brass with each groove "plunged" on a lathe. A lot of machining and probably not a lot of gain for the trouble. Before we knew of the existence of the 238B with a 237-299 generator we were talking about adapting one. Obviously, the fa...

Re: Evaporust yellow film

change the evaporust when it begins to look like raw egg yolk. When the rust is heavy use a rust remover (H3PO4) first to get the heavy stuff out and then finish with evaporust. The "BB shake" will not remove rust from pits. That takes a solution or blasting with abrasive. evaporust doesn't need to ...

Erwin-
weren't you keeping a database of 238B's and their locations? at that time it seemed we knew of only 10 or 12. There's that many on this thread alone and I know of still more. I'd be interested in knowing how many you have listed.

Many probably don't know this except owners that little hex screw on the fuel cap does not float. it tightens the brass insert tight against the bottom of the cap. Have no idea why but suspect there was a reason for it.

Can someone please explain the "makes and burns it's own gas" claim?

that's why it's called a "generator". (or even "vapourizer" if you are in Europe)
The liquid gasoline is converted to a gaseous phase and mixed with air.

I used to think "gas lantern" meant gasoline. Silly boy.

mixing gasoline with kerosene negates all of the benefits of using a non-volatile fuel. No problem in a 237B, even though it doesn't say it, the lantern was designed for gasoline. Not so much so in a European kerosene lantern though. No positive shut off and so forth. I think the 237B burns brightes...
