Re: Record selling price for embossed FS lantern.
Big money for a repaint. I say the seller was honest and good for him. He did a nice restoration. I seen it on there and was watching to see what it done. And the seller was up front about the paint. Cannot blame him for what people are willing to bid. I just wonder if this is tax refund and stimul...

Thanks for the tips all. I’ll see what tools I can come up with. Luckily I don’t have much money involved in it so I can count it as a learning experience one way or the other.

Suitcase generator tube broken off in valve?
I bought a clean looking fuel tank for $1 at the flea market. It looks like a very useable tank with the exception that the gen tube is broken off pretty flush with the valve. Anyone have any luck removing the broken off piece from the valve? Thanks!!

Re: Killing Himalayan blackberries?
Picking blackberries for me has always involved some 2X6 (or wider) planks laid over the blackberry patch. It was an adventure walking and picking from the unstable planks, knowing a fall into the 12-foot deep blackberry patch was a fate worse than death. Seems like I’ve heard this story about fall...

So I don’t know much about blackberries other than I love them. I was reading that a lot of the wild ones are actually black raspberries and that they are very similar looking to blackberries. So are the invasive ones blackberries or black raspberries?

The last 2 or 3 versions of the 220/228 were offset like that. I don’t think the valves/parts are interchangeable with previous versions.

The person who wrote an entire cook book on the subject (single burner stoves) said if he had to choose the 502 would be his choice. Plus he put a pic of it on the cover of his book. That should be all the proof you need

The 502. It’s much better, but I don’t have anything to use it for. My parents think I don’t need coffee. Ppff. What else does a guy use a 502 for? There so cool you don’t have to use them for their intended purpose. Here’s a project I need to get back on. Painting them and some 200As to match some...

All kinds of fuel bottles. I don’t know why I got a thing for containers. The cheaper China one seem to work fine. When I open a new can of CF I usually empty it into the bottles. It’s so much easier to fill a lantern with a bottle than a gallon can. At least for me anyway.

So my other question is if the lantern is NOS and the fuel bottle came right out of the box why is it empty? Did it slowly leak out the last 50 years? Maybe the seller didn’t want to ship a full canister and drained it somehow?

Since it’s NOS I might not use it anyway but if I do I’ll use a new can. That tip was worth at least $.04. 😁 Wow. Finally one of my guesses is correct! You answer a lot ...

That definitely looks like a waterslide or at least like it came on the lantern. I was thinking since yours is the only one I’ve heard of that maybe someone removed the Kamplite decal and put the herters on there. But seeing it that definitely appears to not be the case. Looks original.

I’ve always liked the Kamplite pinkies, I guess because they are different and not real common. I think they were available only one year???
