The tip must me manually cleaned if its clogged up. The lantern original came with a separate tip cleaner.

I think I remember buying a propane gladiator at academy a few years back. Then I read an online article about how propane didn’t work great in really cold weather so I returned it and bought a used suitcase stove. The was a costly article in terms of both money and shelf space.

Thanks again. The soon to be new owner is aware of the problem and he’s going to fix it and work something out with my stepdad on the cost. Hopefully he’ll double check the entire deck and make it safe all around.

Ron, does the generator on your lantern have a built in cleaner rod and tip cleaner? The Q77 was like the Q99 in that it had to have the tip clean manually. If there is no tip cleaner in your generator it not original to your lantern.

I don't have an answer for you but are you sure that generator is steel and not nickel plated brass? I don't recall ever hearing of a steel generator, but that doesn't mean they didn't make them. Looks like from about 79-83 the was a couple different globes. One like yours with the straight line Pyrex and one without a Pyrex at all. My 83 200A has one without the Pyrex. I’m always wanting to put one like yours on it but I think this may be the original globe??

Locos use diesel to run the generators to run the Traction motors which eliminates the need for a transmission/gears/clutch. The transmission would have to be the size of 1/2 the locomotive to produce the 4400 HP for the 215,000 lb loco.

Sorry for your loss. I’ve had 2 thermos globes break while being shipped to me. The thermos globes I have seem thin and flimsy. Maybe they aren’t any worse than Coleman globes but they sure seem like poor quality globes.
