That is a great looking 228. Classic style and a big hat to top it off. Agreed--coarse weave Silkies look right at home on them too. On the pump knob, Lemi Shine has citric acid in it which will affect brass and copper like vinegar does. To get some black color back, a solution of baking soda and wa...

Tyler, I wouldn't give up on your 275. You should be able to get a parts lantern or a fount to get you back up and running without too much of an investment. Post a WTB here in the classifides if you want to start somewhere. If you're still looking for an LED lantern with some character, the Coleman...

Re: Is there an amber globe for the back-packers?

BusyB, I don't know the whole back story on Jafe and their involvement with coloring GPA globes. From what I gather, the company was putting out some top notch colored globes--and those fetch a good buck right now. The red ones are the most prevelant from what I've seen. That sucks, Kevin. I experienced the same with Evaporust and both the 500 and 500A frame plates, so I know exactly how you feel. :( It doesn't take long either--you would have had to check it very frequently to avoid that. I ended up painting one with VHT flame-proof flat aluminum, but the color and...

Thanks, fellas.

Dan, yea, I’ve seen the red ones and assumed they were a Jafe-produced item. Unfortunately, if/when they pop up they’re usually out of my reach.

Thought it would be nice to have an amber for my 226. The color helps with the bugs and tones down the light a bit, too.

Is there an amber globe for the back-packers?

Hi folks--

I've poked around looking for an amber globe for the 222/226 size back-packer lanterns, but haven't seen one. I don't see an option for one in the 226 parts break down either.

Was there ever one available for these little guys?

Re: Coleman 440 questions

Hi David. You can use Coleman/Crown camp fuel (naphtha) or regular unleaded gasoline in your 440. However, I personally would only use camp fuel since it burns cleaner and will not clog up the generator as quickly as pump gas. If you can find one, generators for these stoves are expensive, too.
