Great lakes fall gathering 2023

It has been a busy beginning of the year. I have been traveling a lot for work, moved out of our current building, and moved to a work from home schedule. On top of that we sold our house, bought another one, and moved in the last couple weeks.

During that time I have also been trying to work on the fall campout. After several attempts to get ahold of Gordon’s, I was able to speak with the manager. I discussed the issues we had last fall that were brought to my attention and was assured that they will rectify them. With that out of the way, I would like to announce the following.

The Great Lakes Fall Gathering at Gordon's Campground near Kendallville, IN is planned for Friday-Sunday September 22nd-24th . We will be in the usual area. The campground is working to get us the same discounted rate and I am awaiting a call back from them.

I talked to the campground and they planning on us using the pavilion for the weekend, and a hayride on Saturday night. They told me that they will make sure that the seasonal campers are aware that we have the pavilion for the weekend.

If there are two or three people who would be interested in organizing a group breakfast Saturday morning, please speak up. I am sure if we had some folks willing to cook, others would be happy to toss in a few bucks to help with the cost.

We are planning for a group meal on Saturday evening prior to the hayride. I am talking to the campground to see if we could have communal fire pit across from the pavilion if everyone is interested.

Gordons does not open until April 15th and they asked if we could give them a few days after the 15th before we call to reserve due to high call volume. Otherwise, the reservation procedure is the same as usual.

I am looking forward to seeing everyone.

It looks like Gordon's doesn't open until mid April, so I probably won't be able to confirm future gatherings before then. I know that folks may need to get dates in for vacation before April.

At this point I am planning to go ahead and schedule next year's gathering this fall when we are there assuming everything goes ok.

I did hear back from the manager and they told me the rate will be $22/night.

Considering how much other campgrounds have raised their prices lately, this is still very reasonable for what they give us.

I'd be interested in some of the larger ones. As for lanterns, I don't have too many nickel fount lanterns so I'm always interested in those. I'm also looking for parts for a few projects I have going on. I need a green 200A fount to restore a frankenlantern I picked up. I'm also looking for various parts for a KampLite IL-11, inverted lantern.

I talked to a few of my friends who are planning on coming with me and between them they mentioned a nickel-fount 237, a 200A, a 242, and a 243 for lanterns. One of them is also looking for a GI pocket stove.

Called yesterday and got reservations. Myself, my wife, and youngest kiddo will be out Wednesday afternoon/evening amd leave Sunday. I will have a lot of NOS 200B vents, close to 200 globes, couple stove stands, and tons of misc for sale. I will probably setup at my camper, so come find me

One of my friends also just mentioned he needs a snuffer for a catalytic heater he recently picked up that didn't come with one. He needs the larger, dome-shaped size for the 5000-8000btu heaters, like the 515 if anyone happens to have one.

We are just under a month away from the Great Lakes Fall Gathering at Gordons Campground. If you have not already made a reservation, please do. We are planning to do pulled pork sandwiches for dinner on Saturday night at 6pm in the pavilion. If you can bring a side, please post so that everyone can plan. There will be a light up and hayride after dinner on Saturday.
At this point there are no other planned group meals. The theme lantern for this gathering is the 24X series. I hope you have safe travels and I am looking forward to seeing everyone.
