Announcing the…

2021 ICCC Southwest Gathering Campout

Open to ICCC Members, and Coleman Collecting Friends are also welcome.

Place: Luna Lake Campground, Group Site-A in Apache-Sitgreaves NF-FS, Arizona.

Dates: Arriving Thursday, September 9th, 2021 at 2:00 P.M.
Thursday, Friday, & Saturday (Length of Stay: 3 Nights).

Checkout: Sunday, September 12th, 2021 at 12:00 Noon.

Details: Luna Lake Campground Group Site-A has been reserved for our use and is up in the pines near Luna Lake which is located about 3 miles east of Alpine, just north of U.S. Highway 180 in the eastern side of the Arizona White Mountains. This is an established campground with a Ramada, picnic tables, cooking grills, fire pit and clean restroom facility. There is room for up to 120 people, 30 vehicles and camping spots for tents and trailers. It’s a great site for camping, a little fishing, and of course Coleman Lanterns and stoves!

You can see more information on camp policies, general rules, and accessibility on the Luna Lake website at www.recreation.gov or contact Al Cerino at 480-229-9087 or Mel Taylor at 575-621-7747.

Please send Al Cerino an Email at outbackaz@hotmail.com if you are planning to attend or need more information. It would be nice to see who is interested in coming.

Note: The Forest Service has closed Apache-Sitgreaves and other AZ forests during this year’s wildfire situation. To be reopened soon after sufficient rainfall and to honor the group campsites that have been reserved. Mel and I have decided to move forward cautiously with our Southwest event pending any changes by the Forest Service. We should be fine by September. Common sense social distancing at the event will be observed.

Regards, Al Cerino, ICCC #492

9 hours and 46 minutes without stops...I'm going to have to work hard to get psyched up for that drive, but I'll keep it on the back burner. [oh - and a refrigerator I've been waiting 3 months for is supposed to be delivered on the 9th.]

Welcome!

We bring a bunch of lanterns and stoves to light up. You can also bring stuff to work on and get running, or sell and trade. I bring my motorcycle and explore the area a little during the day. You can pretty much do what every you want to do. We sit around in the evening and talk Coleman or what ever you want to talk about. On Friday night we have a group dinner if you want to participate. We usually have more than enough food to have leftovers on Saturday night also. So bring something to share if you want to.

It is just a fun weekend of camping with people that like to burn a bunch of Coleman Fuel! Here are some pictures of last year.

I don't think I'm going to make it. On the 9th I've got a refrigerator being delivered that I've been waiting 6 months for, and I just realized that I have Back-to-School night that night too, so I wouldn't be able to leave until Friday, and I'd only have one day to relax before packing up and spending another whole day driving.

I have a reunion with some old friends in October and we will be camping up at Whitney Portal. So your gathering may be a good opportunity to check out some of my camping gear. But I can probably only do Saturday to Sunday AM. Not sure what to being potluck wise for guys I don’t know. Would picking up a pie in Alpine (or Show Low) be cool?

I have a 413E stove I grabbed recently at a flea market for $5 (no fleas included) – no clue if it works but it is complete. Maybe I can get some info on doing a restore on it.

It seems like a lot of discussions here are geared toward liquid fuelled items. Are propane fueled lanterns allowed.

Forgot to add to my above post. Show Low is the last reasonable priced gasoline or diesel fuel on the way out there to Alpine. So fill up before you leave Show Low.

No-go for our squad. My son and grandsons will be in Pennsylvania! This leaves Kathleen and me feeding goats, dogs, cats, chickens and cows of course! It is Patrick's wife grandpa's 90th Birthday Party so we think it's cool, I'm glad I don't have to fly with three kids now!

Sure, bring the stove and we will help you get it running. No problems with the propane lanterns also. I am bringing two of them myself.

Sorry to hear that Mike and John will not be making it. Put this weekend down on next years calendar!

The least couple of years we've done the potluck on Friday, but I'm thinking we should do it on Saturday, since we have one here that can't make it till Saturday and I've invited someone else that can't make it till Saturday.

The Gathering was interesting, informative, overall quite cool, and fattening because of Mel's ribs and the other folks good eats. And everyone was very friendly. Luna Lake is a really nice place. I will make an effort to do it again. Thanks guys :)

Just got back yesterday. I had a great time and it was good to see everyone.

Well, of course we need some photos for this thread!

Al and I both brought our Hot Ray heaters. Here is Al firing his up.

On my way home, I go right past the east entrance to the Grand Canyon. So, I stayed there for a couple of days and enjoyed the park.

With the sun going down, there needed to be some sunshine of the night!

I also did a bucket list hike. I went from the South Rim, down to the river, and back up. 13.2 miles total. Here are some photos for those that will never see the bottom of the canyon. There are two bridges crossing the river. This bridge was built in 1928 and takes you to Phantom Ranch.

That's what a collector's gathering looks like! I'm too lazy to bring a whole pile of lanterns to these get-togethers any more. I don't think Mel looked so furry the last time I saw him back in June, but Al did! Love that CQ photo!

Great pictures Dan! I'll make a mental note not to go on 'bucket list' hikes with you. I believe you'd leave me in the dirt! lol
Sorry I missed but glad y'all had a good time. I'll see ya next year, good Lord willing and the creeks don't rise!
