335 fuel air tube...335 experts?

Tearing down a Canadian 335 (2/71) that won't produce a steady fuel supply. With the generator removed and the fount pressurized, it is quite apparent that the fuel supply is intermittent. I suspect the fuel tube is the problem, so I pulled the valve assembly from the fount...but the fuel air tube really doesn't look like what I'm used to... I can't tell how to remove it. There isn't a four or six sided "nut" at the top to unscrew it, just a round wider section of tube below the threads that go into the fount. Is this f/a tube threaded onto the valve body or is it soldered?

Not an expert, but you should be able to trouble shoot possible issues with the fuel pickup tube without taking it apart.

Just saying that I recently was working on one of the 335 that I have and could not keep it lit when I fired it up. After partial tear down I was able to get a steady diet of fuel out of the generator by simply opening the know several turns and not just the 1/4 on the dial. Works fine now. I also try to heat my generators prior to turning on the fuel. Helps a lot to prevent fire balls.

Yes...that's it. Never having seen this before, I was hesitant to put pliers onto the head of the tube to try to unscrew it. Discretion is the better part of valor...

not in this case...the sluggish fuel pick up was remedied by stretching the spring on the metering rod. But I tread gingerly in areas I'm unsure about, thus the benefits of discretion. There are breathing problems that remain, but as always, one thing at a time. Currently thinking I need a new burner cap and screen...but I'm really impressed with how bright this little 335 is when it runs right. Still wish it were a 202...

Thanks, Bill...that's the kind of information I can use. One of the first and lasting lessons of Fettle 101 is that brass is soft and can break! This part of my problem is fixed...now to find a new burner cap and screen!
