Sears lantern generator 72227

I have a 1976 Sears lantern model number 72325-1. I need a new generator part number 72227. I have had zero luck in finding a generator for this model lantern. I know Coleman MUST have a cross reference number that is for the same generator only for one of their own coleman lantern with its own model number but have been unable to find out what it is??? So, two questions: 1) what Coleman generator number crosses with Sears #72227? and are they available? 2) Just to satisfy my curiosity, Which Coleman Lantern is the same as my Sears 72325-1? Thanks everyone in advance. I'm sort of new to the mechanics of pressure gas appliances.

Your lantern is essentially a Coleman 220 (it has a different fount .... but otherwise the same). The Coleman generator for a 220 is what you need.

Thank you! My generator from the Sears is 3 and 3/4 inches long... the generators for the 220's are 4 inches... will this be an issue?

There are too many Sears models for most to remember the #. Post a pic of the lantern and you should get an answer immediately.

When talking about Sears lanterns most people think of the ones similar to the 220/228 and the 200a but there are tons of other possibilities.

Yes , should be the same as on a 220 Coleman.

I concur a 220 is what you need. Your initial measurements don’t seem correct but I’m not positive.

I've seen lanterns with the wrong generator installed. A lot can happen over the years

BTW, the Sears generators, like those lanterns, were made by Coleman!

I have had 3 sears lanterns come to me with 200a generators, and one came to me with a 201 genny (brand new and greatly needed). I bet if you posted a pic of the generator it might just be a 200a one.

I have the same model you have, and like everyone else said a 220 genny is what you need. Even though it's basically a 220 and I'm tired of them, theres something charming about that avocado sears. It'll serve you well.

Thanks, Volvoguy. I did post a picture earlier in the thread and I did receive a prompt reply. My Sears lantern does indeed use a Coleman 220 generator. My particular Sears lantern was a wedding gift from my brother back in June of 1976 along with other camping gear including a Sears, 2 burner camp stove also in that Avacodo green color. Both have served us well through the years but just like us mortal men, father time finally cought up wth both appliances. I'm just happy to get them both back to working order.

Most generators can be cleaned and will provide good service again.
