Rotary-type gen tips?
Rotary-type gen tips?
My bookmark for the gen tip chart is broken, so I'll have to ask.
I'm working on a couple of 4A irons right now. One has a functioning gen, which has a T tip. The other has a gen that's pretty much FUBAR and missing the tip. I have several new R55s, which have V tips. I also have what seems to be a pretty nice condition rotary-type gen that has an O tip.
What is the O tip for? Is this an iron gen? Will it work on a 4A?

It's priceless until someone puts a price on it.

Re: Rotary-type gen tips?
The 604-299 gens use a capital I marked tip that measures 0.0085 where a typical 220 gen is 0.008. This is minimal and should run just fine. I'm not aware of any O marked tips... Are you sure it's not marked Q?

Re: Rotary-type gen tips?
Well, since I apparently read the capital I as a T, possibly.
What would the Q be? Are there other differences between lantern and iron rotary-type gens?

Re: Rotary-type gen tips?
The Q is the same as a V at 0.008 but most are not shielded to protect the pricker although there are some out there. Only difference i see in a 604-299 and an R55 other than orfice is the gen body size.

Re: Rotary-type gen tips?
I guess it could be a Q?

I have several old, salvaged R55s that look identical to the gen that came in the iron. I don't think I've seen the R55 version you have third from left.

I've got I tips around here if you want them.
Thank you!

When you post a technical help post or a WTB ad please help us help you by advising what part, lantern, dates, country of manufacture and image of the item you are looking for. Otherwise we may struggle to help.
To me a lamp without a shade is creepy!
After awhile, you can work on points for style!

Re: Rotary-type gen tips?
I'm sure I have at least one around somewhere.
Besides--it's an iron. It's not like I'm going to use it to light up the BBQ for the night.
'Though--if we'd known about GPA irons back when I was a ski bum, we'd have had them stashed at ski camps for waxing skis!

Re: Rotary-type gen tips?
If your gen has a thin body with the not easily removable pricker lever it is a 604-299 instead of the R55. These all run fine in Quickliteing lamps and lanterns. The R55 I have photoed was the original that came out for the 480 heaters... the Jumbo R55's all have the fatter body with not easily removable lever.

Re: Rotary-type gen tips?
The V tip will work fine on a 604-299 iron generator. An iron generator will work on a lamp. A R55 generator will work fine in a iron.
My theory is the extra .0005” in the I tip allows the iron to be throttled down without shutting it off.
