Plastic F/A tubes 286 and 400B
Plastic F/A tubes 286 and 400B
Anyone know if the F/A tube for the 286/288 series are the same as those in a 400b stove?. The parts number are different because the include the valves - which are, obviously, different for the stoves and lanterns.

Re: Plastic F/A tubes 286 and 400B
Bringing back this topic again. I have a new f/a tube for a 288 (now called a Feed Tube assembly) and it looks like it could fit into the 400B which has the tube slanted not straight down.
The new 288 including the threads measures 3 1/4 inches (83 mm). i'd rather not take out the F/A tube from the one 400B i have.... so... Does anyone have a F/A tube from a 400A or 400B and if so can you measure it?
It would be great to know it these are interchangeable.
Kevin
ps. Safety notice!!! The bag containing the 288B5231 Feed Tube Assembly clearly warns the user that the product may contain lead and other chemicals that are bad for you and it tells you to wash your hands after touching it! We're going to add this part to a stove with a tank of highly explosive CF and then light the thing on fire - and they think this part is dangerous.....

The 400B "Feed Tube" I have measures 3-3/4 inches including the threads. The tube came as part of the Valve Assembly part # 400-5551 that I got from Mike @ OCP awhile back. Same warning on your package about washing hands etc. Dated 03/01/18.

Thanks - that sounds like it might be the same size as the 290 F/A tube. I have one out in the shop - i'll go measure it later today.

The 290 F/A Tube is 3-3/4 inches long. Now I'm thinking the 288 will be a bit short. I guess i need to take my 400B apart at some time....

I took the valve out of a 400B and the F/A tube is the same size as a new 290 replacement F/A "Feed" tube (290-5231).

I'd go for it but I'm a risk taker.

So the verdict is that the 290 F/A tube is interchangeable with a 400B F/A tube? Looks like it should work.

That is my opinion. But I am, as always, open to new facts that might disprove my hypotheses!

While you're at it Joe, you might pick up a few 290 Powerhouses just for fun. What the heck?

Naw, one 290 is good enough to go along with my other lanterns Chuck. I'm more interested in learning about what parts can be used from one make/model to another. Just in case a part becomes unavailable what other part could be swapped to take its place.
