Look what I found!!!! M1950

#1

Post by Cajuncook1 »

I know this must be small peanuts in the collections of most on the forum, but I was excited to find this locally!!!

I found what appears to be an unused 1981 M1950 stove. The seller stated he tried put a little gas in it but it would not prime, so he could not light it. He drained the small amount of gas. It holds pressure :)

I ordered a rebuild kit from OCP store to do things right.

What would cause it not to prime and fill the pimp cup after it was pump up and pressurized and the knob turned all the way to the left ( 9 0'clock position).

It looks like it has some dry white material in the prime cup. Almost like asbestos ??

Here are some pictures. I feel very lucky. He even threw in an old abused 10/71 Coleman lantern 220F.

I'll guess a small single, like a 242 or 200a. I'd get excited finding one of those.

Edit: That's a good find! I'd probably be very happy to find a single like that one too!

Well, I was thinking about putting it into use, but my inexperience in these matters shows.

I made sure the last wee bit of gas that the previous owner put in the tank was drained. I have it opened to air to dry.

I did not fire it, it is still as I got it I guess it should be a display piece. I did not realize that M1950s were collectible. I read a lot about Coleman about collectibles 520s and 530s.

Well, I guess I'm going to have find another M1950 stove that has had some use to put into service.

Thanks for preventing from making an error.

There's the pictures! That's a pretty one too. Every one I've found in the wild has been stripped, thoroughly charred and intentionally damaged by the military for disposal. It's a shame. They are nice little stoves. I used one in Norway and was very happy to have it.

I'm sure you'll enjoy it once you get it sorted out.

Just the idea that it made it this many years unfired makes it special. It's not that they're super rare or anything, but being unfired and in pristine condition makes it extra special. Even the labels appear flawless. If you ever wanted to sell it, it would certainly command a lot more being unfired. M-1950's are not that hard to find, so my suggestion is to find a user grade one and put this one on display. You will likely never run across an unfired one again.

M-1950's are awesome stoves, and I can't imagine another stove being able to boil water faster. The only drawback is that they're not adjustable, outside of running them at lower pressure. Again, I think you should display that time capsule and try to find a different one to use.

Very nice. Ya, don't light it, buy another one. I see one or so a year in the wild, most up here are fine, though well used. So hang on to that rebuild kit and keep your eyes open.

Then Fiesta made it. :) I don't hear of that name very often, but that doesn't mean anything.

Man, that's sweet!

Now, just for fun, hold onto the pump shaft and unscrew the lever from it. You should find this inside:

There's another spare generator in the clip on the leg.

Well, I was able to find a user! Got it on Bay and believe it or not, it is the same year and manufacutor.

This one looks good and it looks to have been fired a couple of times.

I will keep the first for display and may sell it later.

To nice to fire. Keep it as an example. They are only new once and they discontinued making them years ago. Never been lucky enough to get a brand new one let alone one in a box. Use an old work horse and they will never let you down. My best and most faithful one is the worst looking one in my collection.
