Check valve removal tool

#1

Post by Chub380 »

I was almost sure I saw a check valve removal tool on Ocp but can’t find it for the life of me. Can you guys recommend one? I’d make one if I had a check valve I suppose I could order a spare and build off that. Anyway if any of you have one you like please tell me where to get one thanks Matt

Chub380, be patient and get the tool from OCP. They work exceptionally well and are worth every penny.

Great tool, Mike! Still enjoy the one I got from you at the Great Lakes Gathering years ago! Made extremely well! It makes that task so easy.

Another vote for Mike’s tool. Quality and made in USA. Also don’t be fooled by some you might see on ePay they are poor quality and basically a rip off on Mike’s.

I guess I'd better get in line to get mine. Being I'm just getting started doing repairs, and yes I'm already starting to collect. I guess that's just part of it.

I'm sure Mike is at it if he is able. If his shop runs like my (little) shop, there are often a bunch of jobs waiting and sometimes you get stuck on a job for a bit before you can reset your machine setups to get to the next one.

I don't know if Mike runs a completely manual machine shop like I do, but sometimes ending one job and getting set for the next can take up time in itself. I'd best let Mike speak for his own shop. I just know how things go between job setups.

Hope things are going well, Mike!

Yep my shop is all old school too Dean, I do have DRO on my mill but that is as fancy as it gets. I did manage to finally get a bunch of tools to the heat treater yesterday so I will be sending them to Rob in a couple of days.

I am doing well Dean and hope you are too!

I'll say this for the benefit of anyone on the fence about getting this tool. I wish I'd bought it when I first got into lanterns. It eliminates all the messing around with sticky check valves. I have saved more than enough aggravation to justify the cost of the tool.
Mike and Dean, many thanks for what y'all do!

I got one off fleabay awhile ago because OCP was OOS, unfortunately it doesn't have the double end option. I also don't have a screwdriver with a wide enough tip to remove CVs.

Ran in to an issue trying to remove a 242B CV recently as the tabs on mine are to fat for the slot in the Canuck CV, so modified an old broken spade wood bit and got it out. Used a jewelers file to open the slot on that CV a tad, and now my fat tabs fit for reinstall.

Either I can't find them or they didn't last long.

So does someone have a link/part number or can confirm they are out of stock again?

They don't last long that is for sure! Rob sells them faster than I can make them.
I will try to not let him be out of stock to long this time, I am working on a batch right now.
I appreciate all of you guy's and your patience. :cf_waiting:
