424 generator disassembly

#1

Post by ka5eiz »

I came home with a five dollar 424 today. I am presently sitting on the patio watching it burn. When I was cleaning it up this afternoon I tried to take the generator apart and it did not happen. Any secrets to getting an old generator apart for cleaning?

I think one needs to be very careful with the pricker rod in the generators that screw into the end of the valve shaft. Apparently they are very prone to snapping off where the rod screws into the valve. Best to be careful and leave them alone.

You should not have any troubles getting the outer generator tube removed so you can clean the spring and inside the tube.

But I agree with zoonkat, that real thin pricker rod has a tendency to snap off rather than unscrew (I know this from experience...)
