Milspec old style burner frame differences?

#1

Post by Vendo63 guy »

I’ve taken apart two Milspecs, a 1952 and a 1963. Both very similar, but some subtle differences.
1) 52 Quad globes clips are marked with NSNs and Contract numbers, the 63 is not
2) small difference in the shape of the 45 degree genny seat
2) clips holding the filler cap and funnel on the 52, but rings on the 63

Last difference and I didn’t pay attention to which came from which… the burner frame on one has a clip (to hold the wrench?) and the other frame does not. Which frame is appropriate for which lantern or could it period correct for either?

I searched the forum, but couldn’t find an answer. The ‘2018 Project Milspec’ was very helpful in disassembly.

Any advice on the burner frame or other differences I may have missed are greatly appreciated!

Thanks Steve. That was my initial thought as well. Is it too early for the 1952? My guess was the clip was a pre-parts well feature. Once the well was added it would seem you no longer need the clip to hold anything? Maybe this was old stock swapped onto the 52 or did Coleman carry surplus of the old clip frames over into post parts well production? All speculation from my end.
