Identify this lantern

#1

Post by captndan »

Hi, new guy here. Picked up an old Coleman that I am trying to identify. There are no visible markings that I can see. It is double mantle. The tank is nickle plated. The top is unknown finish. The globe says Coleman on one side and Pyrex made in the USA on the other. The letters appear to be green. The fill cap is winged. The pump is on the outside of the tank. There is no jet cleaner. Incredibly it has fuel in it and is pressurized. I would like to find out more about this lantern. Thanks, captndan

427 Quicklite with Q99 generator?

Is this a quiz?

Photos would be helpful.

Definitely need some photos if you could add them. There is a link in the bottom left of the "Reply" window labeled "Add image to post", so hopefully, that dialog will help you get the images added. It has options to select the image from your local computer/file system or you can Copy/Paste into the dialog. I've found the Copy/Paste via <CTRL>-<C> and <CTRL>-<V> on my PC works pretty well.

As an example, I've inserted the following image. And out of curiosity, does your lantern look anything like this one?

And it looks like Tgarner01 had a similar idea while I was typing my response. As they say, great minds. ;-)

On my android phone, I select share, chose the email option, select the smallest size when presented the size options, then send to my computer's email. The smallest size selection usually fits the forum size requirements. Use the "Full Editor & Preview" posting option and add the properly sized pictures to the post as "attachments". There is a forum FAQ section where other methods are discussed.

While I am also quite new to this forum.

So are the obvious places where you would find the Coleman name imprinted on the lantern visible? Considering with it having a Nickel fount we use what “is” on the lantern to first help out before trying to figure out what “isn’t” on it.

We know the pump is on the outside so that puts us in a particular year range. Now the next questions need to be asked. Where Is the Coleman name stamped or shown on it?

Painted ventilator? Yep but not a normal paint supposedly.

Fill cap is winged.

Eliminate what we can see to produce what we can’t…

Does that possibly help without photos?

And if you want to learn a little about these L427 lanterns, you might check Terry Marsh's web site. He's got some interesting facts about the lanterns, like the knob shape on the pump. Congratulations on your purchase. Sounds like you got a fun one.

Coleman 21's or 2C-HG Peerless work fine.

I took Latin for two years in high school and Spanish for one year in college. Can't speak or write it all. Thank goodness for Google translator!
