Akron 132AG/Montgomery Ward 54

Picked this one up the other day. Unfortunately the cleaner lever is broke and won't raise and lower the pricker rod so going without it. The valve only turns about a full turn but I'm not sure if that's normal And it surges a little so any advice there is welcome. Otherwise it great looking piece.

Thanks. It was that one of my usual stops that had been a good to me but also been dry for awhile.
Got to figure out why it's pulsing and see if I can fix that but it does run pretty good

I’m digging through Akron valves hoping to find a serviceable one for you. I’m pretty sure I don’t but the current interest in Akron’s has me wanting a burn free experience so I’m digging deep!!!

Thank you!

That would cool if you had one. The valve only turning one full turn has me stumped since yours turn many more times. Wondering if I should unscrew it from the valve body.

The way it’s running I wouldn’t worry about it. More concerned your pricker control may be stripped? The pricker control shafts may have play if the seal is soft or worn. Did you try to push the shaft in to engage the rack n pinion?
Do you have a picture of the valve removed? Mark E’s is totally different than any of mine.

Thank you!
Kevin

I can look down into the valve where the pricker would go and see the rack not moving when I turn the lever. I think at some point it must have broken off.
I didnt remove the valve at all. Too worried I would ruin something. I think you are right about just running as is for now. I got a new ultra sonic cleaner and gave the gen a good run in it. Ill see if that happens to improve the pulsing.

Show it off when you get it! mine has been trying to fight me. Still surges bad and noticed its leaking a little at the valve body where the generator screws in.

Mike,
I believe a member told me to apply a little blue permatex on the genny threads before screwing it in.. may want to try that.

Yes! I will post pics when I get the Akron going. It has given me fits! But I hope that’s about to end.

I've thought about that but from what I understand everything is just supposed to be hand tight on these. And what's odd with mine is the gen is missing the hex at the top to help unscrew it. I may have to though if it doesn't seal up.
