Waiting for longer day light, dry and warmer weather
Trying to keep my streak of backpacking every month of the year, missing September four years ago or whenever when the Dr said not to do any hiking. Looks like this Wednesday the stars line up, or could do a day later, but going to help a friend Friday. Day time in the 40's, O/N only mid 20's at the least, so not bad for Repo. Think I'll go up by the PCT and snow shoe down a trail that parallels the road up by Bucks Lake. A couple spots I've used before, but one had a windfall in it, so have to shoe in another five to 10 minutes further. So instead of leaving from my yard, something different driving a few miles higher up where I have not been for a few years. I think I deleted a pic of Repo and I, him beyond me with my stove going between my legs while sitting in my tent. Don't get any better unless I was 20 years younger.

Good to hear that you and Repo are planning a trip, Duane. Hope you have a good time and Repo enjoys getting out in the snow. Don’t know how much better it would be 20 years ago. Maybe further in but still good to get out. If you have dark skies, you might be able to see the green comet naked eye.

Re: Waiting for longer day light, dry and warmer weather
I was out day hiking a couple days ago in the snow a couple miles above the house, and eyeballed a little ledge I use to o/n on when I was a bit younger. Maybe again.
Good on ya Duane. Repo gets cold?

Re: Waiting for longer day light, dry and warmer weather
Remembered there was a sign in town saying road was closed ahead, thinking it is a few miles before the summit, will have to call my neighbor who plows snow and see if the road is closed at a point a few miles before the summit.
Repo gets cold, I try to cover him, he has a coat a neighbor gave me and I put a doubled up Z-Rest pad under him.

Re: Waiting for longer day light, dry and warmer weather
Had to use 4X4 to get up the last few miles to the summit, packed snow, icy packed snow, loose snow. My neighbor who works for the county road department, had not been to the summit for awhile, but said I might need 4X4, he was correct.
Back to not knowing how to move camera photos to my tablet.
23F this AM, snow 3 to 4 feet deep, had some nice photos of snow covered vehicles at the parking area at Bucks Summit. Real windy in the tree tops last night, just a breeze ground level. Was nice finding an old spot I've camped a few times before, was getting tired by then, 90 minutes or so going in, harder coming out this morning, had to stop quite a bit, just slightly uphill coming back, 'shoes sunk into the snow 6" to 8". Took over 90 minutes to fix coffee and hot cereal, pack up this morning, can do that in the summer.
Was nice having light after 5:30 last night, started melting snow around 4:30, up this morning at around 6:45.

Re: Waiting for longer day light, dry and warmer weather
Don’t know what phone you have but you can email the pictures to yourself and bring them up on the tablet. Or if you have the same make, maybe something like Airdrop to move pictures from one to another.
Sounds like you had a good time and hope you can post some pictures, Duane. Seems everything takes longer to accomplish when winter camping.

Re: Waiting for longer day light, dry and warmer weather
I'm trying to move Canon camera photos to my tablet, only phone apps online which do me no good. I even need a different cord to download to my idle Ipad. Canon does not like my old info, so may need to create a new account there. Frustration all round.

Duane, stay safe and have a good time. I hope both, you and Repo stay warm.
Thanks,
Dan
