I'd make him an offer if he were closer to me. It would look nice sitting beside my 11-71 200A.

Re: Get out your wallet.
I understand the fervor over Gold Bond lanterns. There aren't a lot of them and it is a real status symbol to have one, it is a pride and joy to have something few people have, people will envy you and that makes you proud. It is the exact same thing with the Stanley #1 bench plane. It is rare, sells for over $1000, and few people have one. If you have one then you are looked up to, the master of one of the universes. A Stanley low angle block plane will do the same thing better for $60 but the #1 bench plane is the Shiznit. Same thing with a Gold Bond lantern. The green 228 is exactly the same thing, just a different color. You can get just as much or more light from a $20 200A as you can from a $600 200A size Gold Bond. Exactly the same thing, just a different color. The real catch is the status symbol; if you have a yellow lantern you are king of the hill; a red lantern means the dung heap.

I'm surprised he didn't go ePay. The big buyers overseas aren't looking on Craigslist. A mint 200A just went for over $3K. That's crazy for a coat of paint.

I'd go $8.00 on a GOOD gold bond, but only to pass it on to someone that liked em.

Re: Get out your wallet.
Putting the numbers like that forces a phone call. I understand completely. I sell a bit here and there on Craigslist. Too many time wasters that want to text or email back and forth and be your best buddy or spam the heck out of you with texts/emails. Can’t be bothered to read a listing first, etc.. Someone with a real interest will pick up the phone and call. No harm in putting the number that way, eliminates robo-dials, etc.. As an aside, much of the younger generations will break out in hives at just the thought of having to talk to someone on the phone. Actual voice communication is becoming a thing of the pastSasquatchian Nightmare wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 2:41 pm I don't know, Im kind of skeptical when they put phone numbers like that

I texted him... he’ll take $800 ... out of my unemployed league! But not that bad for a NIB Gold Bond , eh?
Wayne signing off...
What's the lowest you'll take for this lantern?
Today is a gift, that's why they call it the present.

OK, I could see 800 as a starting point for negotiations, but I'd also need to make a trip of purchasing something that high-powered. Spread the cost out over a camping/canoeing/meeting people trip, you get the idea. Not during COVID!
I also have no use for unfired items, so I shall pass on this... Perhaps some day I find a good used one instead

Re: Get out your wallet.
There's so much lunacy lately in collecting.
I saw my birthday lantern go for $1400+ on ebay this weekend, a burgundy 200A. Glad I got two of them ten years ago or more. Astronomical prices are nice if you're tired of collecting or you're dead and your family knows to auction your stuff off. I'm neither.
