All Dead...Or Only Mostly Dead? 5-70 200A and 1-79 321B

We shall see if the tale of the tape(s) are accurate or not. These two lanterns came to me *free* courtesy of my lovely and brilliant niece, who teaches at a university here in Alberta that shall remain anonymous. She found them in a cabinet in a little used storage room. She asked the university admin and her faculty head, and they both told her she could do what she wanted with them. Fortunately for me, that meant give them to her dear old Uncle Kelly to see (per Miracle Max in the Princess Bride) if these lanterns are all dead, or only mostly dead. I'm willing to bet that these lanterns are in fact, only mostly dead, which is the same thing as slightly alive.

If they are, in fact, all dead, there's only one thing to do...go through their pockets for loose change...or, loose parts

This lantern restoration is a truly noble cause...truuueeee looovvvveee.

Both of those look great. I'll bet neither of them take much work to get them running again. Cap gasket and oil the pump. That might be it. Hopefully they didn't store them with old rug in them for decades. You have a great niece.

Sure looks like that little 200A is still breathing to me. But their one of my favorites anyway.. I do not know anything about the 321 but likely only mostly dead and worth a little resuscitation attempt

They were slightly wounded but classified as KIA by incompetent battlefield operators. They look like they can be "arisen". Organ donors abound.

Those lanterns appear to be pretty good; they probably won't take much at all. Some oil for the pump cup on the 200, and the Easi-Lite may need the O-ring kit (from OCP), and of course, mantle and globe. Nice gifts from your niece.

For the '70 200A - the answer is - mostly dead/slightly alive!

Checked the burner assembly, generator, air tube, and fuel cap gasket (all good). Moved on to the pump....which was dry, and had the leather cup installed in reverse. Corrected that and oiled the leather and reinstalled - result was blow back. Removed the check valve (without incident) and it was clean, even pristine. However, taking a look down the pump tube revealed the issue:

Thanks so much to tgarner01 for the advice on how to proceed with the pump tube mess! An hour carb cleaner soak, scrub, another hour cc soak, scrub, overnight evapo-rust, scrub - cleaned up sufficiently to blow it out, reinstall the check valve, pressure up, CF fill, mantle tie, and light up!

Inconceivable! Next miracle will be the mostly dead '79 321B

For the '79 321B - mostly dead = slightly alive!

Checked the burner assembly, generator, air tube, and fuel cap gasket. All was well except for the G3A generator, which was clogged and sticky. Disassembled and cleaned up in a warm mild acid bath and reinstalled.

Moved on to the pump....as with the 200A, it was dry, but the leather cup was installed correctly, unlike the 200A had been. Oiled the leather and reinstalled - result, as with the 200A, was blow back. Removed the check valve (without incident) and it was gummed up, as was the pump tube. Cleaned the pump tube in a similar procedure to the 200A. Gave the check valve a warm acid bath and restored function.

Reinstalled the check valve, pressured up great, CF fill, mantle tie, and light up!

Inconceivable! Again!
