Purchased But Not In My Hands Quite Yet - October '45 228C !?!
Purchased But Not In My Hands Quite Yet - October '45 228C !?!
Pretty excited to get my hands on this...had family pick it up for me. I'm calling it as a 'C' rather than a 'D' due to the centered 'cautions' yellow label style rather than the later 'Caution' ....but I won't know for sure until I can look at it closely and check it over. I'm sure if I'm mistaken, someone here will point out my error.
I don't have a ton of US stuff, but this one will be fun to work on. Pretty sure that's a mid-60s Canadian globe. Also kind of cool it has the reflector, which was also likely added to this long after the original lantern was purchased, judging by its logo.
Most of these pics are from the PO, who was selling it for his 94 year old uncle. First pic is from my brother, who secured it for me!
Cheers!

Definitely a C Kelly! I've owned several, but none of them came with such a cool globe!
Look forward to your cleanup

Nice!! Definitely a C with the screw on pump. All of the D versions had a pump held on with screws I think.

Nice score!

Those Cs are nice lanterns, & what a catch with that globe!

Thanks, everyone. I'm looking forward to the lightup as well. Have to wait until the covid restrictions ease here - unfortunately our vaccine rollout is wayyyyy behind you folks in the US. I'm 52, and at this stage am expecting I'll be able to book my first shot sometime between April and June. To make matters worse, our cases here in Southern Alberta are spiking (again). It's damn depressing, so I'm glad I have no shortage of projects here to keep my mind focused on something positive.
Cheers!

Re: Purchased But Not In My Hands Quite Yet - October '45 228C !?!
Update - in my hands today! A few surprises...the cage has broken and been cleverly wired in place on one of the supports - should actually work just fine. After they did that surgery, however, it seems they installed the collar....upside down ?!? It is cool that these had 228C actually stamped on the collar, though!
I think I will leave the fount paint and instruction label pretty much as is on this one...it has the look of something that came out the late end of WWII.
Cheers!

Thanks, everyone. I'm a bit unsure on the label...what does everyone think...should I leave the original or replace it with one from OCP?
Cheers!

My OCD kicks in hard when it comes to decals and porcelain, but on that one, I'd leave it original.

I would leave the label also unless you plan to repaint.
Mike's labels are very nice though if you end up wanting one
