Some kind of casting numbers? It's neat to find something good so close to home. It's happened to me more than once. Makes me want to snoop in people's garages.

I assumed the collar was correct, collar stamped 242c. Here's the bottom date. So is it a 53? 63? 73? Or were these reversed dating meaning march of x8?

I'm seeing March 48. Great little lanterns. They're piling up around here. Not a bad problem I guess

Yup 48, I had the month and year swapped from what I said above...
Ken. Looking for Bday lanterns, 10/83, 11/84 and 10/2011. Milspec Syndicate member #1020
Thanks, I forgot that older ones had the dates in reverse.
Must be pretty nice to have an abundance of these, here we only get profane and occasionally o.p. beaters.
* just realized since it's confirmed 3/48 that it's my gf Bday lantern. With that, I'll clean her up, get her running and give it to her since she's still upset I sold the Tilley flounder. I'll probably cook a nice din din and have it running like we do sometimes out front and just see her response to it and tell her it's hers.
She likes lanterns and wickies but doesn't know much about them (like me).

That's a good looking user. Personally I wouldn't touch the fount or collar with any sort of polish. Once part starts to shine the rest will look silly. Just get it running perfect which isn't too difficult on a 242 and put her back in service. I seem to enjoy running the worn ones these days. Make me smile when something so well used works so well. Curious about the globe, could be a nice one if it's original.

The globe is just a white letter Pyrex U.S.A.
I'm keeping it for a user but still want to clean her up and go through it completely. I'm happy with the price and found within walking distance to boot. It's got a few tweaks that I need to straighten out though.
I vote March 1948. Is the sunrise fount stamp large or small? On a B fount, the stamp is 1 5/8" tall, and the "Coleman" and "United States of America" are the widest parts. On a C fount, the stamp is 1 1/4" tall, and "The Sunshine of the Night" is the widest part.
florida_grown, Nice catch, wish I could find anything closr to home!
Plenty of life left in that little 242, they are all bright good running gems.
StanDahl, good fount info too!

So... the e-block was broken and got that from OCP, replaced the leather, pumped with no fuel and hear a slight leak @ the fuel cap, tightened the fuel cap and tried agin...no sound.
So I decided to fill it just over halfway and do another pressure test before burning in a mantle. Cap is leaking. Just ordered one as all I have are 1-2 of the larger cap seals. In the meanwhile I decided the clean up the dirty globe and seen this.
I had only seen the Pyrex u.s.a. on the opposite side barely when bought because it was so dirty and the lady had technically already closed shop on her garage sale so I was trying to be quick and get outta her hair.
I don't know any differences in the sunshines/colored to determine if it's possibly correct.

46-58 globe if my notes are correct.
Thank you. Makes me feel better for the firm price of $20. She wouldn't budge and yeah it may not be a steal by the forum standards, but in my area it is.

Well she cleaned up pretty good for missing most the fount nickel IMO. Just waiting on a cap gasket now.
I'll check the fuel valve packing integrity once I get the gasket. Other than that I think she's good to run.
Fuel cap gasket came in and to my surprise it was so aged all I had to do was dig it out with a #000flat . Took all of 2 minutes. Burned a mantle in , fired up, had a leak at the pricker rod lever , tightened, refired and she's up n' running for $5 in parts w/shipping.
While running I seen intermittent flare ups at the gen nut. I'm pretty sure I just have a couple rough edges that I can smooth out @ the flare base and then good.
Hmmmm, mantle after first burn in. I'm thinking I have the remnants of the combo of cleaners I used to clean the fount??? Mantle is nasty black.
