I was in a bar mill a number of years ago, the guy showing me around said if he runs follow him. The good news is we didn't need to run but he had pictures of a snarled up glowing pretzelized steel. He said he could hear a change in the sound of the process so he knew when to run.

Yes sir. Bar mill here. You can hear the sound of the mill change and sometime it's very very slight. In the part of the mill in the picture it's still a large bar so you can almost crawl and get away from it. At the finishing end when we are running smaller bar it's zipping. I'm not allowed to share ft per second because it's considered part of our process and trade secret. But I can tell you this, you don't own a vehicle that can out run it. Even on the largest size you can't out run it on foot. I've seen it shoot up in the rafters some 60ft up. So yeah, by sound I know when to take off butt hole and elbows.
